What to see in Berlin

Dear All,

I am going to Berlin this weekend with a friend.

Can anybody give us some tips? What to see? Where to eat? Great pubs?

Many thanks in advance,

Kati

The DDR Museum and Checkpoint Charlie museum are very worth seeing IMHO.  Also don't miss the East Side Gallery (graffiti art on the remnants of the Wall).

Yes, as long as the East Side Gallery is still there...

Definitely definitely do the alternative city tours given by guides. Was as interesting if not more so than the actual city tours! Especially if you like to know about the grafitti!

Well you should definetely enjoy nightlife in Berlin!
Wonder around Oranienstr. in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain has some cute shops and cafes, as well as around Rosenthaler Platz. There you can also find some good bars for the evening!

If you're there on a sunday check out the openairs around the city!
Have fun

Its technically free, but you tip them like 5-15 euros as it's their only source of income

We were there last August - had a wonderful time.

Most fascinating for us was the Holocaust Memorial museum - harrowing in its intensity but IMHO it should be visited by everyone, especially young Germans

Take some comfortable shoes!  It's a much bigger city than you think.  I took the City Sightseeing, jump on/jump off bus with helpful commentary in which ever language you like and it saved me pounding the pavements, especially to go out to the East Side Gallery (which IS still there and is amazing).

The Brandenburg Gate is iconic and shouldn't be missed, particularly at sunset.

If you don't have much time, focus on (the old) East Berlin - it's far more interesting than West.

Enjoy - I loved the place and would definitely go back! Cool

And this area (towards Hackische Höfe) has became a very popular shopping area for clothes&shoes with lots of small shops. Women like it. ;-)

Totally agree about the old East being more interesting. If you like a 'hippy' atmosphere, then Prenzlauerberg is the place to go.
