Depends what you are looking for. Travelling this time of year is the most expensive week. If you're looking for sunshine I'd say Canary Islands in January just after Nyear it costs nothing :)

Hi Marion,

You could do worse than visit Cannes on the Cote d'Azur for the New Year.

Try one of the many restaurants, the shopping in the rue d’Antibes and/or explore the local markets for everything from antiques to fresh fruit & vegetables. And if you are looking for milder weather, the daily seasonal temperatures are usually several degrees higher than Lausanne or Geneva (this week max daytime temperatures in Nice are forecast between 8° and 11°C).

If you like fireworks, they are preparing a special fireworks event, the Cannes Dance Fire in the Baie de Cannes to celebrate winning a fireworks award - check the link:

http://www.cannes.com/index.php?option=com_content_actu&task=view&id=10997&Itemid=2457793

I can even help with a recently refurbished cosy flat in the Cannes Banane (the centre) which is available at very attractive rates.

Whatever you chose, I hope that you have a great time.
