Do you want to visit CERN and build your own particle detector?

5 July is the First Annual LGBTSTEM Day, which will celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ people to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. LGBTQ CERN invites GotMilk? members to join us for an event at S'Cool Lab, CERN's teaching laboratory. This event is for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, intersex, asexual, genderqueer, and other queer people, plus our friends, families, and allies.

You will be able to build your own cloud chamber, a simple type of particle detector, and learn more about the invisible particles that pass by (or through) you every day. You do not need to know anything about physics to have fun with the workshop! More information is below. The event will run from 14:00-15:30 on Saturday 30 June at the CERN Reception building, right next to the CERN tram stop on line 18. (Note that the tram will probably be replaced by a shuttle bus between Blandonnet and CERN; allow extra travel time.) Before and after the workshop, you can visit CERN's permanent exhibition and check out the gift shop. The workshop will be primarily in English. Friends, families, and allies are welcome, but we can only admit people born on or before 30 June 2004.
