** Glacier Hike - TRIENT **

Sunday, October 14th, 2012 @ 11:00
, Lausanne
Global warming and excessive rain cancelled the last attempt, so let's try again and go on this beautiful hike to the Trient Glacier and watch the world melt under your feet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BASIC INFO:
Total Hiking Time: approx 3 hours, plus stopping for picnic lunch, plus extra time if people want to walk up to (what’s left of) the glacier.
Elevation: 310m up – 310m down (not including walking further up to the glacier)
Kilometres: 8 -10 kms
Difficulty: Moderate but steep, the 310 m elevation is gained in the 1st/2nd kilometre!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ROUTE DETAIL:
Starting in the village of Trient – we’ll walk up on a steep path through the forest to the Sentier du Bisse-Glacier. We then walk on the flat along the Bisse (irrigation channel) with stunning views over the valley to Col de Balme (nothing vertiginous). We then climb further up to the Chalet du Glacier, then continue climbing and clambering over rocks and streams over what used to be the glacier.
As the glacier is receding faster than Prince William’s hairline, every year, we have to climb higher and further to get closer to the ice wall.
This is a circular walk – we walk back to the village of Trient.
