Zermatt Lake Trail: easy hiking
Sunday, October 11th, 2015 @ 09:00
Zermatt, Lausanne
We'll be hiking from Blauherd to Riffelalp,
it's quite a well known trail, easy T2 -quite FLAT- with many lakes, perfect photoshoots & lots of cafés; just over 3hrs with the photo-stops.
So if you have always wanted to see the mountains above Zermatt with stunning views of the Matterhorn but don't want to push yeself quite yet, this is the Hike for you!
We go up with Funiculaire to Sunegga and then cablecar up to Blauherd 2571m, passing 1st lake Stellisee, then a café 2618m, then 2nd lake Grindjesee, then 3rd lake Grüensee, another café and down to Riffelalp station 2211m where we take train down.
For transport ye might wanna look into an SBB Day-Pass due to the many connections. We are leaving after 9am so the special SBB Day Pass is valid!
If you are driving, best leave your car in Zermatt before coming up to Sunegga: count 11.30am-ish in Zermatt.
It is October so first flakes of snow will be around, i doubt we need more than good mountain boots and warm gear: make sure you are waterproof, hats & gloves etc a thermos with hot drink keeps ye warm inside at any time :-P
We take 9.20 train from Lausanne platform 3 to Visp, change to go up to Zermatt then mountain train to Sunegga arriving just after midday.....hopefully views will be stunning :-)
It's not a long Hike but the trip back from Riffelalp will take 3,5hrs, so i'd say back in Lausanne at 8pm-ish.
