Hallowe'en is originally a Celtic/Pagan tradition, believing that 31st Oct. is when the two worlds (of living & dead) are the closest and people dress scarily to frighten any spirits that might take them away, so...

Calling all ghosts, vampires, witches and zombies! Come and enjoy Hallowe'en in the not-so-well known 'Fairy Caves' in the 'grottes de Vallorbe' area again. Another chance to explore, dance & eat.

From the car park / meeting point, we follow the route / pathway that starts with an easy stroll along the river Orbe towards the touristy Grottes, but before getting there, we turn off to the right, go over a bridge, pick up some branches for our fire and follow the path going up, up, up through the woods.

You'll need to wear warm clothes that you don't mind getting a bit dirty... Once the fire is started, it gets very warm and come with headlamps or torches!
Ghoulishly dressed fancy dress costumes = bonus!

No specialised equipment is needed (although smthg on your head is a good idea) & you'll stay 'dry' even if it is raining outside, but remember, the caves can be a bit damp in places & slippery !!!

You don't need to go in, as most,of the fun is outside by the entrance, but...

> Cave 1 ... About 120m long, there is NO crouching or squeezing through the main passageway here, as you can stand up straight and simply walk through. There'll be music, lights & dancing here at some point during the night.

> Cave 1-bis ... An optional passageway that involves crouching down through a 3m section that takes you back to the main part. Upon request, we can even show you the trap door (see 'Fairy Caves w kids' activity pics 2015).

> Cave 2 ... Starts with a 3m easy-squeeze before you can stand again. The first part is about 50m long and then, after a real squeeze (where we'll stop), the caves goes on for a few kilometres(!), where those adventurous need to crouch most of the time ... and we don't know where it ends, yet!

TRAVELLING: Public transport is not an option. Carpool by using the 'talk' section below.

RDVZ: Free, large carpark (Rte. de la Raz), 200m away from the 'Restaurant de la Source' (when coming from the town of Vallorbe or down from 'Le Pont').

LEAVING the carpark at 18h00 (while we still have daylight to find our way)... & as always, we don't wait if you're late.

DINNER: BBQ... Bring what you like to cook on the open 'camp' fire (you'll need metallic bbq skewers & plates), drinks (remember your cups) and something to share (wine / bread / salads / sauces / gratin dauphinois).

!NB! ...We will need to find some dry-ish wood while walking up (to light a fire to cook on). The more we have, the longer the fire burns.
