A Xmas market journey to Biberach and Ulm
Saturday, December 5th, 2015 @ 13:00
Ulm (Germany) is the destination, Zurich
Hi! Shall we organize the traditional early December journey to the German Xmas markets? After hitting Bad Wimpfen, Gengenbach, Ravenna Schlucht and Donaueschingen, this year we could head to Ulm.
As a former free Imperial City and birth place of Einstein, Ulm hosts the world's highest cathedral bell tower and a vibrant Christmas market. It is located right on the borders between Baden Wurttemberg and Bayern, making it feasible to travel to either regions by using the regional train ticket.
On this journey we'll probably manage to see the university city of Augsburg (including the quaint Fuggerei district, where the poor can have a house for less than 1 euro per year, as long as they pray 3 times a day) and medieval Schwabisch Gmund. More specifically, here's the idea:
- December 5th -
the goal: visit medieval Biberach an der Riß
- December 6th -
the goal: visit Augsburg (with 6pm angel performance, see www.uk-augsburgerchristkindlesmarkt.com/angel-performance)
- December 7th -
the goal: visit Schwabisch Gmund (with easy hike to S.Salvator and along the Roman Limes, see http://www.schwaebisch-gmuend.de/630.php)
- December 8th -
the goal: visit Ulm (with cathedral bell tower, see www.ulm125.de), then head back home
Needless to say, you can also come just for the weekend (I guess only Luzern and Lugano have December 8th off?)
Feel free to join in, to participate in the planning of the journey!
