Recommendations for a Beginner's Level French Class

Hi all,

I would like to begin learning French. I know nothing, except for a few phrases. Does anyone have recommendations for beginner's level French classes? Preferably less-expensive.

Thank you! Smile

Luke

If you have the time, I highly recommend UNIGE's summer programme.

I've taken them more than once and found my French improves by leaps and bounds.

If you don't have three weeks of mornings to go: iFage, ecole club Migros, and the People's University are all places I've had friends find success with. A lot of it comes down to your teacher, the group dynamic, and your own commitment and attitude.

If you're not already using DuoLingo, that is also a good place to start.

I have tried 3 schools in Geneva, and Ifage beats the hell outta competition - it has all you need. They have really qualified teachers, it is not pricey (2 months 2x 1.5 hrs/week evening course is like 450 CHF). They will make good evaluation of your skills (it is free) and assign you to a group. Lessons are grammar (which I love) + texts + talking etc. 2 teachers I met there gave even more material than they had to, really pushing the level up. Plus, they are all super nice and pretty well organized.

Then I decided to try 2x other schools, whose name I will mercifully not mention,. waste of time, money and good mood. If you are serious about learning, try Ifage (or private teacher). These are best options until B2, in my opinion.

Hi Luke,

I was a volunteer teacher in French at UPCGE :

http://www.upcge.ch/en/registration

You have every level of French there.

It is 150 CHF for the year (50CHF per semester) + 1x 50 CHF of fees for the whole year.

Courses are 2 times a week (so 2x 1h30).

Take care,

Sarah
