Chamonix, Geneva
This is one of a small number of hikes which allow the inexperienced hiker to walk onto the edge of a spectacular glacier. We drive to Argentière, take the cable car to the Plan Jordan mid-station (2134), and walk down to the Refuge de Lognan (2067), where we will have a quick coffee. We follow a dirt road up to an impressive close-up view of the house-sized seracs above an icefall. We continue up a trail to the Point de Vue (2339). At the Point de Vue we have a close-up view of the Argentière glacier. With a short rock scramble, you can walk onto the edge of the glacier, if you wish. There are also excellent views of the magnificent Aiguille de Chardonnet and Aiguille d’Argentière, looming above the glacier, and of the Aiguilles Rouges across the valley. We will have our picnic at Point de Vue.

This is an International Ski Club of Geneva (SCIG) outing.
