Visconti's last film,and one of his most sumptuous and melancholic (from 1972)..The story of the extravagant German monarch,Ludwig of Bavaria,Wagner fan ,with a thing about swans......and,living it large in the days when monarchs thought they had every right to do so.
But he got it a bit wrong,really,as it turned out.
