Hike - Schynige Platte to First
Saturday, August 8th, 2020 @ 09:00
Wilderswil, near Interlaken, not in, Lausanne
This hike is often described as one of the classic walks in the Alps. For almost the entire length of the hike you have views directly onto the Eiger, Monch, & Jungfrau.
There is a very detailed description here:
https://www.earthtrekkers.com/hike-schynige-platte-to-faulhorn-to-first-switzerland/
We will take the train from Wilderswil up to Schynige Platte, then walk to First and take the gondola down to Grindelwald.
The cost will be about 32chf for the train & gondola (with demi-tarif). We may be able to get a group discount but that depends on final numbers.
Length: 16km
Altitude gain: 800m (approx)
Meeting point: 9am Wilderswil station.
- We must be on the 9:25am train up in order to have enough time to do the hike.
It would take approximately 2 hours to drive from Lausanne to Wilderswil so coming up Saturday morning is possible. However, a couple of us are staying in the Lauterbrunnen area for Friday & Saturday nights so staying there might also work better for you.
For those that are interested, we can meet for Saturday night dinner in Wengen. Totally optional!
You will need good hiking boots as well as lunch, drinks, waterproofs. Poles if you have them.
