Fasnacht in Luzern aside Basel, is one of the largest carnival events in Switzerland in February. If you have not experienced it yet, it is a "must see, must do" at least once! The main days to be there are Dirty Thursday (the start), and/or the following Tuesday. Check out the details on this website. Me and numerous Lucern Glocals will be attending of course :)

So no Carnival's party in here??Lausanne??
Hello Daniela,
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but since John Calvin forbid it during the Protestant Reformation in the 1530's, there is no carnival in Geneva and every try to introduce it again was not very sucessful! So it's not a tradition and I think people would find it fake... But we have l'Escalade the 12. of december instead of it!

Indeed, the only event I know of in Geneva that involves people getting dressed up on costume it the Course de l'Escalade. In any case, if you really enjoy carnival, it really is worth attending the one in Lucern at least once.
If you need a day off to see the one in Lucern, take the Friday off. Most people in these parts work Thursday, go to sleep, then party aaaaall night in the streets, and recuperate on Friday.... to start again on Saturday :)

I will be there but i am from Zurich.
Is the Carnival here like ours (Portugal = Brasil) or more German style?
Regards,
Carlos Vales

Luzern and Basel are worth seeing once. However the one I really like and go back to is in Bellinzona www.rabadan.ch which is spontaneous fun and not forced as it always seems to be in the German part.
I may organise a day out there if I feel generous.

I'm organising an outing to the Bellinzona carnival on Sunday Feb 19th. Have a look on meetup for details.
