Hi there, i am looking for a salsa dance partner to go to parties from time to time, Advanced Level. If you are interested to try to find out if we can fit pls let me know. Lily (IceLily) 07 88 78 68 11 Thanks. PS If you also dance the standard Latina program - even better!

I'd like going out to dance salsa as well, although I'm in your situation. Not sure where to go, and I know nobody who dances salsa...
My level? I have fun dancing and I have dances quite a bit of salsa in diverse salsa places. But have hardly danced since I came here...

I can't say so but I dance almost 2 years and this is a thing that I really enjoy! Anyway, there are some styles of salsa which I dislike.. I don't really enjoy cuban salsa. Mostly, prefer to dance LA style.. that's the linear salsa which you dance on 1. Also I love dancing bachata and chacha.

Hi! I go regularly here in Geneva. If you don't like Cuban salsa you're in for a disappointment though because that's what most people here dance. The places I go to most often are the Barrio's latino and the MAD. The Barrios plays salsa most days but the best ones are Sundays Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the MAD on Thursdays. The Barrios is a bit smaller and more intimate, the MAD has more space for dancing but both are often crowded. If you go often enough you will always see the same people there, including me (probably!) and I think it's quite a nice community though like I said, Cuban salsa dominates the scene! I think there is a place to dance porto rican salsa (linear on 1) which is the Tony's bar but not sure about that.
The Monté Cristo as I know it is a fun nightclub but not too salsa and more lots of teenagers and reggaeton but I've heard that on Fridays it's supposed to be a salsa night, and the bomba latina is also a nightclub which I've been to but have never danced proper salsa in. It's a bit dark and underground, though not unpleasant.
Looking forward to bumping into you in one of these places. Happy dancing!

Just wanna share my first impression. The MAD club is a really nice place to dance salsa, if you can find it, of course! :) But thanks to Miria, as she showed my the right way to the club. The place was really full of people and even, I would say, overcrowded. A lot of Cuban music, bachata, merengue and even reggeaton. As I am dancing Poertorico style, if was difficult to find a dance partner.. at least I found one couple dancing linear salsa on 1. But the rest 99,9% were dancing cuban salsa. I think, I will go to dancing school to learn cuban salsa..
I'll definetly visit the MAD club once again. So, if any of you dances on 1, just drop me a message. Have a good weekend!

I'd just iike to add that Tuesday at the Barrios Latino are awesome! The quality of dancing is high though it's still Cuban, but it's a really good evening. Apparently the people go there for the DJ (Pirata) as he is good and plays a lot of good Cuban salsa music (as opposed to the others who play reggaeton bachata and merengue a lot more). It's a great workout! enjoy the party this saturday

Well, I must say that it's extremely difficult to get a 50-50 relation in a dancing course, as you never know if everybody shows up every time... 2-3 men/women difference is normal and should not hinder anybody from learning the dance...
13-20 is a bit too much though, usually students from higher courses help out in those cases, at least that's the experience I've had....

Agree with Emma, Barrios with DJ Pirata is great fun. Unfortunately the place is a bit too small.

I didn't hear of any salsa dancing schools in Paquis. The 2 schools that I've visited and which I could recommend to you are the following:
Salseros-de-Hoy in Meyrin
Salsaviru in Thonex.
Both have cuban and portorican classes.

Hi, All !!
I'm from Seoul ,South Korea.
I came to Geneva last week. I love dance Salsa a lot!!
Also I love Merengue, Bachata and Chacha ( on 2 Cha cha).
I 've been looking for the place where should I go to dance Salsa all these day .
Where is the best place to dance salsa in Geneva?
In La Mad, still plays Salsa every thursday till now?
Where should I go to dance Salsa today?
Last friday, I went a salsa club close to Cornavin station.
I think its name is Les Brasseurs Cafe, after get into the Cafe, you go to another gate underground. There's dance floor and bar.
When I was there 3 musicians play Salsa with background music.
But nobody danced Salsa! all the guest just listen to salsa music, or sometimes danced Regaetton.
I was expecting so much to meet some of Salsero & Salsera in there.
So, could you please give me a good suggestion or idea jenerally where Salsero&Salsera are used to go to dance Salsa in Geneva?

It really depends on what style that you prefer to dance. Geneva is more cuban, I guess, but there are many LA&Portorican salsa too.Usually, I learn about salsa events on facebook. I am subscribed to many groups. I would say that this is the best way to follow salsa events.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I prefer to dance Salsa on 2, but I like to dance cuban style as well.
Actually no matter how it is Salsa ,dance On2 and On1 or Cuban style, I like all kind of style.
if I could listen to Salsa music and be with Salsa people ,I would be really happy.
I like to watch dancing, I like to listen to salsa,I will enjoy Salsa tmosphere in there. Moreover,if I could dance salsa on the floor with Salsero, it would be PERFECT!!
You said you get information about salsa events on face book.
Mmmmm.....I am going to try it!!

Hi Kim!
There is a salsa party at salsavirus on Saturday. In my opinion, this is the place where you can meet a lot of good dancers.

Last Saturday, I joined the Salsa Virus !
It was good! There were some of couples who were dancing salsa very nice.
They danced on 2 : good at spinning, lady styling, men styling, shine&solo .
Finally, I got the feeling I was in Salsa mood in there.
Thanks to Vagram ! And Thanks to Miria!!

Nice to know there seems to such a great Salsa scene in Geneva. Can't wait to see it myself, although that will probably be difficult since I just got a room in Seyssel, which is a little bit far away (last train there from Geneva goes at 7:28pm, so that kind of sucks).
Anyways, I'm always open for practicing salsa on the weekends, since I definitely don't want to loose my touch and keep praticing while I'm here. If anyone's interested, I also do ballroom and latin dances.

Hello Manoli! There are plenty salsa clubs in Geneva. However, Geneva is mostly cuban.
If you're interested in LA style, you can dance 2 times a month at Salsavirus school. It's in Thonex. The web address is www.salsavirus.com
There is also a party in Aeroport once a month: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=166193010066756
There are also a lot of LA style parties in Lausanne.
Actually, I follow all salsa events through the facebook. It's easy to do. You just need to have a few local salsa DJs in your friend's list and they will send you an invitation to any event, once it's set up. If you feel interested, send me a private message and I will share my facebook contacts with you.
If you want to learn LA style in Geneva, There are only a few schools: Salsavirus, Salseros-des-hoy, K-dance, AZ-dance

Hi Alex - welcome.
On Saturday we are dancing in Jardin Anglais - the little park, right by the lake ... a beautiful place, in the open and free too.
The DJ is an instructor and also does both Cuban & Porto styles.

I would suggest salsa virus. They organise salsa parties at their school in Onex (it's a bit far out) both in porto-rican and cuban. Otherwise, there is DJ Fonseca's parties but you have to look out for them. He organises great parties at the airport (random I know). There is also the sals'addictos club and K danse in Lausanne. Unfortunately, I don't think there is much else in terms of porto rican salsa dancing here.
Enjoy!

It seems that there are no events or classes for July and August. Am I too late for the party or just missing them somehow?

There are a lot of events coming up during July/August .. A LOT.
Lots of free concerts in the parks and elsewhere.
I normally post these events to the Lating Group and let the members know. I also organize a meeting point so we always have friends to talk to or dance with, if we want to. We have some people coming along just for the music & friendship, others for dancing too.
There is fabulous, free, fun, Latin event tomorrow (Sat 9 July) by the lake. I will post it to the group tonight. Join the group ASAP from this link so you get the details and of course you get the details of the future concerts etc when I post them.

Hello, if any teachers want to give out dicounted private classes in salsa and/or bachata I would be interested and so grateful!! If anyone knows of anything please let me know!! Advanced classes that I checked out myself in salsa schools in geneva are all full..:(
Also, if there is any info on upcoming parties, workshops, events can someone please let me know here?? More importantly, would anyone want to come with me lol as a friend would be nice to go with to these things. I am new to the salsa scene here. The more the merrier.
Finally if someone wants to practice salsa together please let me know as I really want to perfect my moves. I am a upper intermediate/advanced dancer. Salsa on the 1 is my prefered style but I am open to Mambo and on 2 as well as bachata. Oh and I am a girl.
Thanks.

Hi Kacy!
It really depends on what you're looking for. There are many good salsa schools in Geneva for both cuban and portorican styles. You should check out Salseros Des Hoy, Salsavirus, K-dance. At least, these schools have portorican courses.
If you're looking for lady styling classes, I can give you a couple of contacts for portorican classes only. But you should note that private classes are quite expensive. I think around 80 fr.

Hi Vagram, Yes please let me know of your contacts for the ladies styling if possible. Can you also give me the FB names of your dj friends so I can add them and be in the look out for their parties. Finally when you and your salsa peeps do go to a party, please let me know so I can hopefully tag along! :)

I like the "Oh and I am a girl" as an afterthought :-)
For ladies styling in portorican salsa I would recommend Brigitte Carneiro. She's a very talented dancer but she only gives private classes (at the rate Vagram mentioned). Not sure how to get in touch with her though...
I also recommend Carlos Santos who is her partner. Sounds odd, but he's also really good and I took a ladies styling class with him once. I think he currently teaches salsa on Wednesdays at the Brasseur des Grottes. For more info, check the K"Danse website.
If you're into Cuban salsa (not sure?) then I'd recommend Diana Taveira with Salsamas for ladies classes. Haven't actually taken any but have heard so much good about her, and a lot of girls who's style I like are her pupils.
Hope this helps :-)

Hello Kacy,
first of all, welcome to the salsa scene in Geneva.
For your information there will be a puertorican party (L.A., Mambo, N.Y. styles) at SalsaVirus this Saturday. If you decide to go, you will be able to meet all the good dancers from Lausanne and Geneva, and, of course, lots of good teachers, it will maybe helps you to find your future teacher.
If you are interested to attend this party, let me know. I'll be there at 10:30pm

Thank you all so much for your info. I will try to go to the SalsaVirus party on Saturday. Do they always have parties every Saturday? I saw their website and the advanced class is soooo late and the place is far away for me on a weekday. Im so perplexed why there isnt more classes. Anyway, would have liked to attend a few classes, then go to this party as then you know the people and its easier to dance lol. Anyway, if anyone else is going let me know...I might just take up a few classes and then go to the next one.
Cheers.

Hi again,
Puertorican parties, at Salsavirus, are only twice a month. In Geneva, these are the ONLY events where you can practice salsa online (L.A., N.Y., On1, On2, Mambo, Cha Cha) during all the party. In December the parties are on this Saturday (3rd of December) and on Friday 16th of December.
The best thing you can do is to go this Saturday to Salsavirus, it could be the opportunity to talk to teachers and dance with good dancers, some are Glocals members.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I will be at Salsavirus this Saturday from 10:30pm. Hope to see you there

Hello Catherine,
First af all: Welcome!
If you wanna dance salsa today and tomorrow, the best place is Salsavirus (one of the best Salsa schools in Geneva) and they are celebrating its 9th anniversary during all the weekend. The calendar is as follows:
Friday 13th: Cuban party
Saturday 14th: Puertorican night
Sunday 15th: West Coast Swing
You can take a look to the following link: http://www.salsavirus.com/+ANNIVERSAIRE-SALSAVIRUS+.html
For your information I'll be attending both parties.

Hi! You can check on the website www.salseros de Hoy in Vernier. But the upcoming courses will commence in September 2012 but you can try if they offer special courses. Not sure tho. You can also go to salsa dancing every Wednesday in Per du Lac.
Also, Brasseur Grottes has dance courses, too!
Enjoy and hope you have fun dancing.

Hi Mayron,
if you want to begin salsa lessons during these days, you have the possibility to take the summer workshops at Salsavirus (http://www.salsavirus.com/+STAGES-INTENSIFS-D-ETE-2011+.html), or Expresion de Salsa (http://www.expresion-salsa.com/ete2.php), the workshops are one-week modules that allow you to quickly learn a style of salsa.
As indicated by Netchie, there are other salsa schools in Geneva but they are closed during the summer and will be reopened end of August or the first week of September :
Sabor Latino : http://saborlatinosalsa.ch/menu.php?page=articlesMenu/cours.html
Salsa Geneva : http://www.salsageneva.com/
K'Danse Genève : http://www.kdanse.ch/lausanne/cfm/results_cours.cfm
Salseros de Hoy
and many others.
Hope you'll find a good school, among all those mentioned above, to learn salsa.

Most of the salsa places are quite cheap, 5-10 francs, it's difficult to spend lots of money, except if you buy expensive drinks:
Thursday: MàD (6CHF)
Sunday: alternating Bastions/Halles de l'Isle (10CHF including one drink)
Wednesday, Friday, Sunday: Brasseurs des Grottes (price varies)
Tuesdays: Barrios Latino (free but you're supposed to buy at least one drink)
Haven't tried yet the Mamboclub on Saturdays.
More expensive are the irregular Saturdays at Onex, I think they are 16CHF.
(Tango evenings are typically in the same price range: 0-10CHF, with cheap drinks, since they are typically organised by associations.)
Of course, on special occasions there will be more expensive evenings, e.g. with live orchestra.

Nelly, first of all, you should come to the very last Salsa evening EVER at the (current) MàD, tomorrow Thursday at 2200. It's the end of the most imprtant (IMHO) salsa event of Geneva. As you may know, the whole area is being torn down. (That's why SIP is also closing at the end of the month.))
Given that it's the last salsa, and that the following day is a holiday, it should be a great evening.

Nelly I, Mar 29, 2013 @ 23:28
Salsa dance academy is the dance school part of the Mambo club, opened in October 2012.
Unfortunately, I've several friends of mine who were refused access for no reason. Surprisingly, they were all Black people ... During the first two months of this new club, I've heard similar stories of access problem for non-white people.
After they've realised that they have refused access to people they shouldn't have - e.g. Black kizomba teachers (how stupid !!!) - they have realized that if they didn't change their access policy they will loose the potential customers that all these kizomba teachers friends and students are. So they've reviewed it since then.
Otherwise, the Mambo kizomba DJ is great (from Cabo Verde) and the salsa DJ's too.
They is also some new places since the beginning of this thread:
La Rumba (6 route des Acacias), own by some Cuban guys, with salsa lessons on Wednesdays night, opened wed-thur-fri-sat (?)
Le Carré Blanc (23 rue de Monthoux), with soon (?) salsa lessons on Thursdays night and party.
As MàD in rue du Stand is closing this week-end, I guess Rumba and Carre Blanc (and probably some other places) will try to get the Thurdsay night slot.
Otherwise, Brasseur des Grottes (rue de la Servette) is great; I think the best day for salsa is Friday night (Saturday is more reggeaton, and Sunday which used to be fun seems to be dead now).
For Sundays, Salsageneva seems to have a better offer, either at Parc des Bastions or Halles de l'ile.
And many other places as mentioned by other members.

Hi Nelly, I think that most of the answers on this page have been provided by people who doesn't make the difference between the different styles of dance, so forget most of the places mentioned above because they concern mostly "latino" or cuban parties. If you wanna dance salsa on1, you have only 2 choices in Geneva: The Mambo Club (every Tuesday) and SalsaVirus (Geneva's oldest school for salsa on1 and on2, they organize salsa parties twice a month, the next one is on Saturday, April 6). Hope to see you at Salsa Virus.

Jennifer, you may want to look at "Fête de la Danse" this week-end. For 15CHF, you can take unlimited introductory courses, including the latin dancse. E.g. Saturday morning, you have Bachata followed by Salsa. And the same the dances Sunday afternoon.
My experience is that most girls don't really need much classes to be able to dance. As long as you can manage to keep the rythm (while turning), it's enough to dance. Practice the basic step in front of your mirror, and then go smile at one of us guys, e.g. the Thursdays at Point Bar.
