What do you mainly use it for? Is it more meetup community glocals-wise or a different purpose forum?

EF - good for information (there are a lot, especially for people in the german part of switzerland), but never ever post something disputatious :-) I'm partially shocked about the aggressiveness some people are posting.

Better be here ;)

Glocals is better especially for info and socialising - the info on Englishforum tends to be old and you have to find out new information as its constantly changing anyway

the forum exchanges are less moderated but you get more than your fair share of know-it-alls

if you live in Zurich its a good alternative/addition to Glocals

its just the internet - its not reality - use it with caution

What I am going to say here is only my own personal opinion but personally I have found the people on the forum to be sometimes very aggressive and sometimes even downright nasty. In fact, I was so disenchanted with some of the horrible replies that I asked how I could leave the forum, to which the reply was "you can't - just stop posting". That's why I joined Glocals as the people are so much friendlier, not generally speaking agressive, not always point-scoring. Although I do occasionally post on the English Forum, I agree with the poster here who said "never post anything controversial" whatever you feel about it. This is just my two-pennyworth [as we say in English] and each person should make up his/her own mind whether to become a member or not. I have really enjoyed the interchange on Glocals and the moderators are super! So thanks Nir and Oded!

I totally agree, I received some nasty replies and felt sort of cyerbullied at the end so quickly left the forum , after telling them exactly what I thought of them! To be avoided at all costs, as it would put anyone off relocating to Switzerland!!

If there's a bunch of nasty keyboard warriors, there's also a bunch of incredibly supportive people. That's them i remember from this place.

I know this thread is old, but I will add my two rappen anyway.

In short, the English Forum is a mental institution in a microcosm! Anti-social behaviors, nastiness and personal attacks abound. Nobody there is interested in a meaningful discussion. Anyone who tries to ask a serious question about anything or levels a legitimate grievance is treated to a barrage of insults and mobbing by the resident hooligans and bullies — cheered on by their camp followers and sycophants who dish out words of praise, thanks and green-blobs to each other like jelly beans at Easter. These cowardly mental defectives, who hide behind their anonymous monikers, have the ability to turn nearly any post, no matter how innocuous, into a verbal slug-fest and engage in personal attacks, red-blobbing and endless drive-by groaning.

These people are easy to recognize because they are usually “Forum Legends” with tens of THOUSANDS of posts and an equal number of thanks.

The moderators are impotent, useless idiots who do absolutely nothing to intervene or rein in these behaviors when clearly warranted, which, thus, emboldens the bullies.

I've been a member for a long time, but rarely post. When Mark (the founder) was alive, he maintained order.  After his death, it became like the Wild West. It's truly a pity because the forum is a wealth and fount of useful information and knowledge, and could be a much more supportive place for Anglophone expats if there was a crackdown on these people and major housecleaning, along with an upgrade of their stupid vbulletin format which is outmoded and ripe for abuse in its current format. But I won't hold my breath.
