Enjoying the sculptures created by Cold air and water.

A few people have been commenting on the cold weather and how they prefer to stay in to enjoy warm food and the heat of the appartment. Those who have lived a little longer in Switzerland know that when it's windy and the temperature is below freezing there is an enjoyable sight by the lake side.

This afternoon for example I went to the lake side in Nyon to see how the water from the lake was playing tricks on the potted plants within spraying distance of the lake's breaking waves. The results is branches covered in ice, leaves bound to the plant and berries chilled atop an icicle.

In Nyon I saw at least a dozen people taking this opportunity to take pictures. I hope that with these pictures you will be encouraged to enjoy the cold weather, rather than wish it away.

The only additional thing would be to have a wood fire right?

Is the river freezing over? i was thinking of going to the Lac de Joux tomorrow to see whether things had frozen over up there. :-)

The Rhône is not frozen but the Arve, to my surprise, has indeed some sheets of ice flowing on it.

It's frozen but be prepared to be with many people on the lake, you can noramally hire ice skates too.

I remember one sunday a few years ago 10'000 people we estimated to be on le lac de Joux.

Have fun

I'm not so sure about enjoying the crowd but I do know that I want to see that lake frozen over. I've seen it flat as a mirror and I've seen a picture or two when the ice was transparent. I'll just have to wait for tomorrow.

I should get some firewood for my home and enjoy one, maybe tomorrow after going up to the mountains.
