Gyms and sports food in Geneva

Hi all,

I'd like to start working out in Geneva gyms, but don't know about any good ones... Can anyone advice me?

Also, are there any good Swiss websites to buy protein at competive prices?

Thanks!

Best,

Laurens

Here are two threads about gyms in Geneva....

There is a superfoods group in the groups' list.  Tero, the group leader has a lot of information about those sites.

Laurens,

Did you manage to find a decent gym? I've just moved back to CH, previously I split my workouts between the company gym and my equipment at home, though I could not do everything I wanted...e.g. Dumbbell work (over 25kg), Squats and anything Back related not using machines.

I live in Le Vaud now, so went to check out Atlantide Fitness in Gland, they wanted around 1000chf for 6 months, and it's mainly a fitness gym, I'm looking for a more bodybuilding focussed gym, as I can do all my cardio elsewhere, please let me know if you found any gems!!

The Plaza gym close to Eaux-Vives 2000 caters for the more serious weight-lifter athlete.  Not sure of membership cost, so look it up the net.

With regards to sportssupplements, the prices in Geneva and Swiss colelctivelly are obsene!  A tub of sub-standard protein would set you back aroung 80CHF.  I believe that some UK sites deliver to France free of charge, perhaps you should look into this option.

Chris is right, a lot of the UK supp sites deliver to France, and then you get "normal" prices...I'll never be buying protein or supps in CH! Paying over the odds, for products that aren't what you want...no thanks!

Also, thanks for that information, I'll check it out!!

Rubbish!!!!! Fitness Gym my arse did you climb the stairs more than enough free weights with dumbells up to 55kg if your pressing them then I think your probably too strong for most gyms in Switzerland.

Has an excellent powercage and lots of plates what more do you need? Also dont knock the cardio it attracts some lovely ladies to look at.

I train there every day and have a work pass so cant comment on the prices but certainly its better than the Silouette gym in Versoix.

As for supps get www.myprotein.co.uk and then delivered to France.

I'm much more a fan of the PhD products these days, can't knock the MP stuff, used it for 2 or 3 years, however I just found that the PhD whey for myself, provided much more in the way of results!

I'll definitely check the place out, I'm used to having DB's up to 75kg, I'll just have to use their barbells, do they have decent incline and decline barbell frames?

You a serious trainer then?

Fair enough I wouldnt touch that with a barge pole whey too expensive imo ;)

Yes pretty serious now took 2 years off whilst I trained mma pretty much full time so my lifts are shocking atm but will soon be back up to reasonable levels.

75kg dumbells is a serious gym where was that dont think theres many in the UK with those dont think il ever trouble those apart from maybe shrugs.  The barbell racks are good two flat benchs one incline then plus smith machine where you can do decent declines. Lots of adjustable benches around for the dumbells also.

Now that the price of whey has increased so drastically I'd agree, but I'd been using the MP wheys for so long, I felt like a change, and for me they've worked perfectly!

Part of the fun is getting it all back, I've had to take 3 or 4 months off due to various things, and I've had a few sessions recently back in the UK, but have noticed a huge decline in specific areas, I thought now I'm over here again, it gives me the opportunity away from the ridiculous UK social life (drinking) to get back focussed and give it 100%.

That particular gym was in Bristol, a proper bodybuilding/strongman gym, tyres, farmers walk, the lot haha! £25 a month...can't fault it! I was never pressing the 75's, 64-66 was about the limit I ever made it too, 55kgs should be perfect, especially given the break I've had!

I'll definitely give that gym a try, from what you've described it sounds pretty complete, I know I can't expect a UK or US style gym, and it may even be a blessing in disguise to change it up a bit!

Well, I'll visit it, as I'll be working in Carouge, and let you know! So if you're looking for a training partner, even 1 or 2 times a week, let me know! Sounds like you're dedicated!

Thanks again for the info!

Back to the origional question of Gyms in Geneva. I just arrived here and while looking for a good place to live, I´ll be flitting around the Geneva area. I got myself a Silhouette membership and made up this Google map to find the nearest gym to any apartments I mat be looking at.
