New arrival taking an infant to see a doctor
Hi,
We arrived 7 or 8 weeks ago and will have our health insurance will be set up from 1 June (we move into our new place on Tuesday and will register with the canton then). However, we think our 18-month-old may have measles (she's had MMR) and would like to take her to a doctor tomorrow in Nyon. Will they charge us a one-off fee for the consultation and is this likely to be a lot (I'd like to know what to expect although the little un's health is obviously the most important thing)?
Many thanks,
Kevin

If it's measles or chicken pox, it's best to call a doctor in advance.  On a Sunday you can call the Medecin de Garde.   In general, doctors generally prefer that you not come in with a contagious illness (i.e. those that require only treatment to ease discomfort).

If you are in Switzerland already, your health insurance, generally, will be back-dated to the day you entered Switzerland, so the the treatment will count towards the deductible.  It'll be over a hundred CHF for a consultation.

If you are in Nyon, you can find a doctor by asking the parents on the yahoogroup for the Moms-in-Vaud Social Network for recommendations.  There are at least three in Nyon that speak English.  The website & blog for MiV is www.moms-in-vaud.com.
