Non-Answers

It is not the fault or Nir of Oded - fact is, they tell me they can do little about it, but it is IMHO grossly impolite to place an advertisement under the "Jobs" section and despite repeated attempts to elicit a response, nonsuch is forthcoming. There are advertisers who are looking for tutors not only on this website, but others around the Geneva area, who simply cannot be bothered to respond to applications. Hope that they are unemployed one day then they will know what it feels like!Frown

Welcome to the real world of job applications - where responses are seldom forthcoming unless you fit the profile perfectly.

Maybe it would be worth looking at how you apply for roles, the type of covering letter you enclose (English/ French) how your CV is structured.

If its not working then either you need to change what you apply for, or how you apply for it.

either way, keep going and keep smiling

Well maybe they found something already. A lot of people come on glocals to find a flat or a job and once they found it they never return to this website.

What I am talking about is people advertising jobs - only courteous I would think to take the time to acknowledge your interest.

Oh so refreshing to have a good old-fashioned polite answer/suggestion Jeffrey. Would that the world were as gracious as it used to be. Politeness costs nothing: any small acknowledgement would be appreciated, even if it is "No". These people will one day be unemployed themselves and will then know what it feels like.

Its quite normal actually. Most companies will only write to you if they are interested to invite you for an interview.

The more polite companies will have an automated reply message saying thanks for your interest.

Actually Jeffrey, although I whole heartedly agree with you of course, it should be both, individuals and companies - as said,a response costs nothing and means so much

In the ‘old days’, a stampoed self-addressed envelope had to be enclosed with the hand-written job application, otherwise the applicant had no hope of an acknowledgement of any kind.  Even so, you couldn’t be sure you’d get a reply.  Small firms were widely believed to steam off the stamps for their own use.

Plus ça change,  . . .

The justification the companies often use is that they get so many applications, many of which are completely off, that they cannot reply to everyone.

Then if the individual advertisises in many different places and gets lots of responses it might be even less feasible for him to reply to averyone. Even less than for a company. In such a case as advertising here he will not be able to set up automated thank you for your interest response, and, for one busy person to reply to everyone would be just crazy.

Another point that applications are not even read. There are many people when looking at job applications who will refuse to even read cover letters and cvs if the letter is not addressed to them personally in some certain way they expect.

Some people argue an effective method is to state in your application that you will contact them again in the near future and then do it. Sometimes a job application is lost in a pile of useless emails and is discarded by accident.

well it actually costs something as someone has to send out that carefully worded rejection template Wink- but i agree it does show badly on many many companies
