Salsa classes in gva starting Feb/Mar

I and a couple of friends of mine are looking for a salsa class in gva starting Feb/Mar. Cuban style and beginner/intermediate level.

Are you aware of any good class starting in this period? Thanks.

Best cuban salsa school in Geneva: http://www.saborlatinosalsa.ch/accueil

Other good school : http://www.salsavirus.com/-Programme-.html

Best way to improve your level of Salsa: practicing a lot! In Geneva you can dance almost every day.

@Alessio

It's all personal opinion of course, but I don't agree that the best cuban salsa school in Geneva is Sabor Latino.  Certainly not for beginners!

I did a beginners course at this school and personally found that it went much too quickly.  Sometimes you'd do two new steps per week - and this is too much as a beginner to take in and remember IMHO.  Also, at this pace, if you miss a week, you get left behind and can't easily catch up.  I actually did two courses there about a year or so ago and at the end of them I wasn't good enough to go dancing!

One of my friends went to Salseros de Hoy (www.salseros-de-hoy.ch) and recommended this school to me.  I've done the beginners course at this school too now and, again IMHO, it's great.  Especially for beginners.  The teacher takes his time and you really learn the steps properly.  After the beginners course you have enough steps to go dancing.  A new beginners course has just started there this week.

Another school I have no personal experience of but which another friend goes to and has recommended to me is Salsa Geneva (www.salsageneva.net).  There's a new beginners' course starting there end of Jan.

Hope this helps!

Hi all - Throwing a question out to those that have posted:  I have contacted two of the schools mentioned in the posts - I have asked if the lessons are in English, and have not received a reply... so I'm guessing my email was not understood.

I'm aware that we are in a French speaking country, so hopefully I can be spared that lecture, but the truth is I want to fully understand the content (I did Yoga twice, in French and although I could follow what was going on physically, I had no idea of what was being said, so after the second lesson I lost interest) - So yes, I learnt a bit more French, but that was not why I was there... same for Salsa, I want to fully understand all the explanations and be able to express myself if I have questions.  I can speak Spanish, so if there are any courses that are in Spanish then that's ok -

So any pointers would be appreciated - Thanks in advance and some really helpful info above.

Cheers, Dean.

Hi Dean,

If you're interested in Cuban salsa you can contact Expresion Salsa http://www.expresion-salsa.com - Esteban speaks fluently English and is a very charismatic teacher. I know about a few non-French speakers taking lessons with him so I guess it works well!

Here is his schedule : http://www.expresion-salsa.com/cours.php?pg=cou

Good luck and please let me know if you end up attending any of his classes.

Catherine

Thanks Alessio - This one would be more convenient in terms of my office and going after work... but starting at 8.30 on a week night is not ideal... I'd just lose concentration, get bored and it wouldn't be a regular activity... which is ideally what I want.  I'll see how this one at Salsarcade turns out.

Thanks for posting

I went to Salsarcade - The guy was a nice bloke, but he said he would instruct in English as well as the usual French, but it was all in French... he basically forgot about me.  So much so I got a bit annoyed and started losing interest after about 30 mins - by the end of the hour I had actually lost complete interest - So I'm back to square one.  The instructor didn't even demonstrate the full move, it was like a physio lesson for people learning to walk - I just wanted to say to him "do the full move in 8 beats and I'll copy you" but I wanted to resist being the impatient Englishman amongst a room full of very patient Swiss!  Alas, I came away salsa-less!

I'm probably at an intermediate level, I know the basic steps and turns, I just want to practice practice practice to be more confident in leading, being creative and being spontaneous... which is what Salsa actually is, right?  So if anyone has had experience of regular classes where you actually come away feeling like you improved and became more confident, then please let me know by reply.  Much appreciated.
