Bike stolen or taken Place de Fusterie

Hi folks, my bike was either stolen or taken from Place de Fusterie between Rue Du Rhone & Rue du Marche at sometime yesterday.

It was locked to a dustbin on the NE corner of the Temple de la Fusterie (due to lack of proper stands).  My best hope is that some city workers have removed it for that not being allowed.

Does anyone know if that could be the case, and if so, what city department i may contact to attempt to retrieve it?

I didnt have time to report to police as had to get home, so i,m off to the cop shop now.

FYI.  It is a Mountain Bike, red Specialised Stumpjumper (old version, front suspension only), with Rockshoks Reba forks and Formula disk brakes.

Long live Stumpy. Cry

Hi Alan,

If it was removed by the binmen, it will end up here: http://www.fourriere-velo-ge.ch/

Unfortunately though bike theft is all too common in Geneva and I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Hey Alan,

There must be a black market for Specialized bikes in Geneva, mine also got stolen/removed (Green/Black Specialized Rockhopper 2013 version) from the lobby of my apartment (which has a coded door, no doubt).  I have since bought a foldy that I now bring up to my apartment and office.  It's not a mountain bike but for a commuter it does its job very well.

Good luck with the bin men, hopefully you'll only pay a fine to get your bike back.

Hi thanks,  im gonna try the depot above next week again, but they didnt have it this week.  The police told me that it is not forbidden to lock up to a dustbin, so i dont hold out much hope that they have it.  gonna keep an eye on Lebancoin too, as it might crop up for sale across the border.

When you have your bike again it would be a good idea to mark it with Bicycode.  Not only this system will make the bike traceable in case of theft, but also less likely to be stolen.

My bike was significantly damaged by a car when I left it outside, I went to police, they filled in a report and said I should contact my insurance. My insurance said that it isn't covered.

If your bike was stolen, I'd rather go to fourriere and buy a used one for CHF 100 & check with your insurance.

This was 5 yrs ago :-( i went to police for a report but iwasnt insured.  Dont leave a good bike locked up in geneva, professional theives, they later took just the rear wheel of my road bike, so clearly knew it was worth something. .

I've had 3 bikes stolen since living in Geneva, all locked on the street. One had 2 locks on it.

I did get a smile from the policewoman, when I asked "do you think you will find it soon". She told me it was probably already in a market "in Paris".

And quite possibly already being used by its new “owner”.
