Gym membership

I am leaving my Silhouette membership.

I'd be pleased to pass this to anybody that would like to do so, the remaining time on the contract is about 10 months.

Given that a year costs about 1000 CHF, I'd be willing to transfer the contract for about 800 CHF.

We can negotiate, contact me at [email protected]

Re: Gym membership

Hi good Afternoon.

Am not sure about selling a membership, but transfering it legally in concern with the gym club is possible. Because there are documentations involved in this process.

My ex- Canadian neighbour transfered her gym membership with CityGreen in Veigy, France, to me, before leaving the country. But i had to visit with her to have some document signed. I continued to pay the club each 3months, not to her.

Anyway, find this out with your gym club first.

Silhouette may have noted the presence of the new gym in Ferney Voltaire (Keepcool.fr):

Inscription + towel, etc.: 150€ (201 chf)

12 months: 12 x 30€ =  360€ (482 chf)

6 months:   6 x 35€ = 210€ (282 chf)

They require a RIB (official paper with bank details). Not sure, if the Swiss banks have a similar thing.

I checked with the Gym, I can transfer my contract - no problem on that front.

Regarding price, like I said - willing to negotiate! Lets talk....

Folks, in the end Silhouette was very accomodating.

I explained my situation, and they agreed to extend the contract until that date after which I didnt need the contract anymore.

I hope they give you the same treatment.

And yes, selling your contract is possible, you just have to find someone and they will pay the remainder of the contract until it expires.

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately i havnt had a great experience with Silhouette Nyon or Shiti-ouette as i like to call them now...

When i signed my year contract i specifically mentioned i only wanted a year contract and no silent extension rubbish for an other year...

Of course this was no problem and this is not how they worked....

When the year went by (you can feel this one coming ) they did silently extent my contract... Im still fighting this and because they are so very very unhelpful i did find someone else to transfer my contract to...

Now this is when i really couldnt believe what i was hearing...

Not only are they completely unhelpful to begin with, i then find them a new member but  they wont accept because she already had been a member of Silhouette in the past!!!

Are you kidding me!!!

Can you be any more inflexible??

Shocking customer service!! Very unwilling,

Ive repeatably emailed the administration office with my complaints but have in 6 months time not received one response!!

Im seriously wondering if there is any kind of costumer protection in this country!

anyway anyone who is a member, good luck and to who want to become a member... think again!

Hi Noortje,

I have a very similar experience and I am equally shocked by their unfriendly and bullish behavour. They are simply after the money. Wrote about this in my blog (logeeka dot com).

Also met a number of other people in this situation. I am not saying that they do this on purpose, but their contracting approach somehow manages to create lots of "forced renewals" (which might represent an important part of their revenue, given how indifferent they are to pissing former members off).

Menaced going after my with a lawyer. I am sure their claim would not hold in court, but at 400 francs per hours, makes no sense to risk.

Shitty customer experience. Funny that they advertise themselves as being "better than a club".

Recently acquired by a private equity fund. Probably explains why they are after the money.

I don't really think it would hold in court. It is written in the contract you sign when you join the gym, really specific.

They warned about it like 5 times while I was signing up: "You are signing up on September 1st, that means that you can only cancel your automatic renewal between July 1st and July 31st next year. If you don't notify us, on August 1st next year EXACTLY your contract will automatically be renewed and there is nothing to do."

They said this many times, in French and in English, and underscored the clause in the contract very clearly.

I nearly missed the deadline anyway the next year, by they way :D  they sent me a payment slip for the whole next year in mid-July, before my contract was renewed. I quickly checked the contract and realized I still had some days before the automatic renewal, luckily that payment slip worked as a reminder to cancel my subscription.

Cheers

They are all the same: bad. Just go and work out.

Transfering 1 year contract: As for Silhouette, as long as you sell within the first HALF of your 1 year contract, you just have to show up with the new person and that new person has the ability to just take the contract to the original end without making them extend beyond the original date.

If you transfer the contract after the first half (6 months and 1 day), then the new person has to sign a new contract of 1 year from that date.

Key: if you want to sell it, sell it before the 6 month window to give your buyer some flexibility.

You deal with the money personally and without Silhouette's interaction. Completely straightforward.
