Jazz places in Geneva

Bon soir,

I am looking for people who like jazz and would be grateful for any information about good jazz concerts and jams places in Geneva.

Thanks,

Me neither...  I went to a jazz concert in the musiques en ete festival last month, but was not too impressed.  I'm happy to try again if you find something!

Hi

This was discussed recently in the thread 'Any good jazz venues'.

I'll repeat my recommendation for finding music listings in lematin.ch:

http://sorties.lematin.ch/

There's also:

http://www.sortir.ch/home

Thank you so much Nicolas! This is already something to start! May be you can also advise some cozy jazz places? Otherwise I will have to go to each of the clubs found. This is not bad at all :) but still... :)

Not easy to reply to, but here goes:

I can't think of anywhere around Geneva that's strictly a jazz club with live music every night, such as you could maybe find in Paris or NYC (if there is one, I'd love to hear of it!) Of course it's worth checking out AMR (upstairs and the basement), but it's not what I personally would call 'cosy'. Chat Noir has some jazz. These places tend to have concerts from midweek to the weekend, and they also have jam sessions.

Also check out concerts organised by the AGMJ:

http://www.jazz-agmj.ch/php/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,32/

Otherwise there are lounge or piano bars like Gabs or the Leopard Room, and some bars in hotels, which have a cosy atmosphere if that's what you're looking for.

Most jazz concerts are organised on a one-off basis, and can be held anywhere from small clubs to the Victoria Hall, that's why checking the listings is a good idea.

Well, mostly I am looking for a high quality jazz... but I dont think such concert happens every week in Geneve. At the same time it would be great to hear the local bands and some guests. I would like to avoid "porsh" places, just because I dont think its a right place for jazz ;)

Thank you again and Soul3Soul too! Hope to see you around!

thanks for promoting the group :P sorry i have really not been active with outing organization recently - im sure ill get another evening set up this week or next though.

I have to second the AMR posts - the place is great, the jazz is good - and it's got the feel of something unscripted, raw and local as oppose to concerts that are planned in advance etc

Great to stumble across this thread.  I was in Bern over the weekend and popped into Marians Jazzroom and came away determined to find some live jazz/blues clubs in Geneva, something I definately miss from Melbourne.  Looks like there might be some options!

The best you can get in jazz is the first Thursday of the month at Chat Noir - BlaKat Jam Session.

In contrast to the jam sessions at AMR, the host (Ernie Odoom) is on stage himself and picks his musicians, so there is a certain quality standard guaranteed (at AMR you have sometimes guys that present their jazz hip hop "rap" or somewhat limited instrument skills - which on the other hand also adds to the style of the place).

Ernie also already had a jazz club in Paquis that was shared with a Karaoke bar, but wanted to move to Rue de Berne, not sure what actually happened to that project.

The other places that occasionally host jazz is Les Enfants Terribles, Chateau Carton, Le Box and Les Recyclables.
