I would like to learn tp play but never got around to it - so count me in if you accept learners

I used to play it on-line a lot, but I have never played it for real even though we do have a Mah Jong set. So I would love to give it a go.

I just moved to Geneva with my mahjong set, of course. Please add me to the mailing list if possible :).

Im interested in a Mah Jong group in Geneva, but I only see one in Lausanne that seems not too have gotting off the ground very well. So anyone in Geneva like to start up a Geneva Mah Jong Club or Just call it Mah Jong Club? I used too play with Philpino and Chinese friends in Los Angeles but that was a long time ago and I lost alot money then, so Im not that good but do enjoy the game. And would like to practice back up. If someone does start a group, please send me the group link, so I can be added.

I played Mah Jong with my family when I was a kid - a very long time ago, but not too long to remember that I liked it a lot!

Apparently there was no group set up on Glocals, but perhaps a new attempt would be successful? Or let's just meet and play without creating a group beforehand...

However, I would need an extensive update on the rules, I believe.

The game is a lot of fun indeed. I've never played it for money though.

We could defiitely just meet somewhere and play. There are a lot of diffrent rule sets that can be used to play but I know use the basic onces.

We should just make it happen! I have a set :).

That sounds great. What rule set do most people play? I am playing RCR (Riichi).

I usually play with the Chinese Official Rules. I've never played it diffrentelly, so, I would need to observe first should we play with other rules.

I would like to play again too, so please count me in. I am a beginner.

Should we just take the plunge and go ahead and set up an informal Mah Jong meet for this week or next?

Everybody agreeing that we should meet and play, here are my suggestions (according to my schedule) to do this soon:

Sunday, 16th September - afternoon or evening?

Any day from Monday, 17th September, to Wednesday, 19th September - evening (not earlier than 6:30 p.m.)

Any preferences? And any suggestions where we could meet? It should be a place with suitable tables (or at least one, depending on how many people we will be)?

Am not sure what days people might prefer, but Sunday would work well for me. It is meant to be nice weather and one possibility is to sit outside at the tables in the Old Town overlooking the Parc de Bastion (next to the Reformation Wall). There is a bar/café nearby if people would like to buy drinks. Alternatively we could bring nibbles/drinks along as well.

Im good, but anyone like to start up a 'Mah Jong' group? and be the group founder? Would be great and members will join, then easy for people to be notified of group activities. I would but I think for a group sake, im not great organizer.

thank you for your post. As you initiated this thread in beginning 2012, may I kindly ask if there has been any progress in creating a Mah Jong group or club so far?

I am sorry to say, i checked out the site you proposed.

I did not find any callender or member postings or way to organize meet ups. Infact I found that there were semi porn crap as advertising and other.

I feel the best is something in Glocals where we can post a group, events/activities and comments that is open for all to add there 2 cents.

Dave G, the missing information regarding a group or meetings and the repeated question for e-mail addresses left me... sceptical as well, that's why I asked Bijoujade for an update on her progresses.

I will gladly create a - my first! - group if no one else feels like doing it. Although I currently don't have a Mah Jong set and haven't played in decades... However, I would like to set up at least one "independent" meeting as a start first. To perhaps find a co-founder with his own set?! ;-)

I don't know if i can come on Sunday but i will be happy to lend my set.

I like the idea of creating a group and would definitely be up to meet...just not this Sunday. I will only be able to starting from October, but then I am more than happy to join. We can think about which rules to use then, seems as if most people played Chinese rules.

Ok, I will start creating the Maj Jong group tomorrow evening (I will be playing Backgammon tonight! :-)). I'm not sure if the group will be in place in time for Sunday - the Admins need to review and approve the application -, so I think we should go on planning for this Sunday on this thread.

Thank you for organising the group! This Sunday at 3 pm sounds perfect. The spot I mentioned is where the backgammon group has met recently so you may be familiar with it - Rich suggested it to begin with and I think it is a perfect location. The café should be open but I will check.

Do you have an idea as to which set of rules you would like to use? 

for me on Sunday afternoon i am at the Fete des Vengages in Russin.

I think im better for around early evening, if not, I will then jus tmake it for the next time. as this is once a year traditional/cultural Geneva festival that cant be missed, as its all about Wine :)

@Sajade: Unfortunately, I only attended the Backgammon meetings during winter, so I never played at the place you suggested. But I should be able to find it.

Regarding the rules: I think we should start with the most common version? Later, it might be fun to try other versions respectively it should be each round's decision which to choose?

And we still need at least one more person for coming Sunday!?
