Swiss driving rules manual in English

Hi,

Does anyone have a manual to learn about Swiss/Genevan driving rules in English? I have heard you can only get it from driving schools if you join them.

Is there any other way of getting the same?

Thanks,

Dipti

Hi Nadia,

Thank you for such good news. Is it a book or CD?

Will try to buy it immediately and will ask you for a copy if it is already sold out.

There is a full book with all the road rules in it (equivalent to the French version). 200 or so pages from memory. 40chf from Payot on Rue de Mont Blanc.

Also check out http://www.cooldriving.ch/en/index.htm . "COOLdriving is at once a game and a training tool to test your traffic regulations knowledge in a 3-dimensional environment".

Not to worrie, if anything commuting on the swiss-french border has learned me, is that there are absolutely zero traffic rules in either country and that the police really can not be bothered. Smile It is one of the things that rings so un-swiss it keeps amazing me.

I found a pdf-copy of some old dated edition of the driving rules in English. I don't know how exactly outdated it is, however I believe that the majority of the regulations are still valid.

Feel free to contact me if you need a copy.

too right, the Savoyards and Genevois are a nightmare. The rules seem to be

i. if making a manouvere, never signal

ii. if French, weave about the road like you are drunk

iii. if on a scooter use footpaths and cyclepaths at every opportunity

iv. truck drivers, always drive on the bumper of the car you are following

just remember that if you take the test in english, the vocabulary is quite ambiguous. here's a tip: if you learn the code in french, they use the same vocabulary on the test. i.e : they use the word "entraver" in the response choice as well as "déranger" in another choice for tha same question. as "entraver" is the word used in the code ( entraver and déranger are synonyms having somewhat similar meanings) unless you are a really good french speaker, the nuance can be misleading. therefore, the more unconventional vocabulary used in the answer is usually the correct response.!!

I'm wondering if we can upload the pdf-file with the rules somewhere on this site... It could be quite helpful for glcal community, however I'm not sure regarding the copyright...

Very good point. It may be useful to ask the administrators to find out their stance on this/copyright.

Once again, thanks.
