Uber Taxi application

Has Anyone tried using this app / service in Geneva Yet? I'm not comfortable with providing a scan of crédit card when signing up but if it's secure and of course the ratés end up being  lower then of course that's a big attraction ! Intérested in  any feed-back .....

I used Uber several times in Geneva and abroad, and it's a superb service.

And they're a huge company present in 100+ countries, so you're not taking a risk on a fly-by-night operation here.

We have a glocals promotion with them: use code UberLovesGlocals on your 1st ride, and get CHF 25 off your fare. Really, it works

I love UBER! It's safe and used by milliions in the world every day.

And you have to love a service that the Geneva taxi drivers are trying to block: http://www.tdg.ch/geneve/actu-genevoise/uber-depose-huit-plaintes-guerre-taxis/story/26721141

I heard somewhere UBER drivers aren't allowed to accept tips, according to UBER's policy. Don't know if that's true.

In any case, if the service was outstanding, I tip.

Hey,

I am in charge of Marketing and Communications for Uber in Geneva. Thanks for spreading the UberLove guys. We are working very hard to increase the number of rides and ameliorate the customer experience. So please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have a suggestion or comment.

What is currently happening in G town:
Few weeks before our launch (end of August), the dominant taxi actor in town (85% of market share) reached out ot us and suggested to form an exclsuive partnership to reinforce their monopoly position. We obvisously rejected thsi proposal, as we aim to come up with an alternate options to the exisiting services (http://www.tdg.ch/economie/taxiphone-propose-partenariat-uber/story/17083820) and offer an additional CHOICE to the customers.
The company decided then to attack not only our business legitimacy, but also to intimidate your Uber drivers and the customers (today http://www.tdg.ch/geneve/actu-genevoise/uber-depose-huit-plaintes-guerre-taxis/story/26721141).

As we are growing, we are / will be facing new challenges, but count on us to remain strong and confident. We have in-depth conviction that our service will:
1.) reliable solution for the customers at a more competitive price
2.) opportunity for drivers to optimise their revenues
3.) more security for both drivers and riders
4.) ensure in mid term a decrease in the number of vehicles in town, support the ecological concern and decongest city centers

Hope the information above brings clarity to the whole situation.

Would be happy to provide more info if you have further questions.

Eric

Uber is the best! Especially if you don't speak French, no need to.
Choose your location and where you are going.
Drivers are so polite and it seems like you are being picked-up and dropped off by your personal driver.

The rate is so good plus you don't even have to wait for your card to be scanned, your bill is automatically deducted from your card.

Oh I love every Uber experience I had and once in a while that there are some things I don't like, I just inform Eric and voila I got a reply immediately.

I love Uber, problem is I love it too much that I"m always tempted to use it even though I don't need it. Go Uber!!!

Hello,

I wanted to use Uber to get to Grand Saconnex on Sunday but was told that there would be a 19 minute wait so I had to use the competition unfortunately as I was in a hurry. Is this normal?

I am glad that there is finally a competitive taxi service in Geneva as the rates are extremely high and am fed up with the arrogance of some of the drivers. Hearing my English accent, they have sometimes tried to take the scenic route to hike up the fare and quickly change their tune when I tell them that I know Geneva very well

what do you mean by normal?

i assume that when there's lots of demand, wait times are longer. when there's less demand, wait times are shorter.

i also assume tho that if uber stay on 19 min wait times in the busy periods, they will lose business

Hey,

Thanks for your message.

19min is indeed a very long ETA. Sorry about that! As Mark mentionned it, it is most probably due to the very high demand. Also and as our supply is still limited (but growing at a very fast pace), we are focusing the dispatch in the most central zones of G town to enable your drivers to satisfy as many clients as possible (by doing as many rides as possible).

Eric

So great to have other options in Geneva Eric Roditi.

I use the taxi service a lot and the verbal abuse you get from drivers going into France, pick ups at airports, demanding tips is just disgusting. So much so I take the car to the office now, park it there and use public transport. It's not an impossible task by any means but it adds hours to the journey and when you are leaving the country you just don't need anymore hassle.

Looking forward to using the service Uber, I will report back.

holy crap (chtz), 90 vs 150 that is just a massive difference.

I am a bit confused, because UBER seems to be more of a pickup and drop off service? As least we dont have thousand of taxi sitting around.

If I tell people they can call me and request a date and time, and I would then provide a Transports Services, I dont see what is anyone business (execpt me have proper insurance and pay my taxes) that anyone can tell me I can not do this. I have a drivers licence that allows me to drive a vehicle or mini bus with up to 16 passengers. So If I wanted to start a Transports Services, and I have car insurance, what is the big deal?

In Geneva the taxi drivers are very much like a mafia, they also are the worst impression for the new visitor to Geneva.

I traveled for 5 years , twice a month. Ok I didnt care about the cost because the company paid the taxi from Depart home>airport>home return. but what I found is differnces from CHF 35- average cost but other times at CHF 55- And I always had just one luggage. So they definitly overcharge and when you tell them that is not correct they just told me, too bad and that is the price.

Other problems, is if you go to a taxi stand at midnight and tell the first taxi the destination, oftern if they dont like the destination, they will refuse you, which is illegal in Geneva. But that do this all the time because if you jsut want to go to MOA club in Vernier, they then have to drive all way back into town, and they prefer quick and fast fares, its more rides and more profit. And they wait in a long line of taxi's and dont wnat to wait agian a long time.

I think I will be trying out Uber soon :)

Hi Eric just a couple of questions, if you live just over the border in France Ferney Voltaire/Ornex/Gex etc...are the Uber drivers allowed to go over the border. I saw an article yesterday saying that France is trying to ban the Uberpop service?

If I use the Uber service (pick up Geneva for example) will they travel over the border and vice versa?

Many thanks!

Hey,

Your Uber drivers are allowed to cross the boarder, but depending on your final destination, the choice to accept the ride depends on your driver. My suggestion: when ordering your ride, enter your final destination in France to ensure the driver accepting the trip also accepted the destination.

Nonetheless you won't be able to book ride from France unless you live very close from the boarder.

Hope this helps

Eric

I'm really happy with Uber too.

Ordered a car on Sunday morning at 05.30 to catch an early flight: from the end of Eaux-Vives to the airport only 13 minutes and 27.50 CHF.

I'll definitley use UBER again, in CH as in other countries =)

@ Eric Roditi - I am dismayed to learn that during peak times Uber increases prices with the reason being - while you work to get more drivers on the road. While I understand you need to increase the number of vehicles I don't agree with the sometimes large increase in price.

Please note I love the service and me and my friends use it regularly. However, now I feel frustrated that you increase to almost Geneva taxi prices.

So, what is the benefit for me to use Uber now, with a longer wait and increased prices, I could just call Geneva taxi service which are more abundant and deal with the grumpy drivers..

I think you might just be shooting yourselves in the foot Uber. Undecided

The text you are quoting:

@ Eric Roditi - I am dismayed to learn that during peak times Uber increases prices with the reason being - while you work to get more drivers on the road. While I understand you need to increase the number of vehicles I don't agree with the sometimes large increase in price.

I don't speak for UBER so I might be totally wrong, but I think the answer is simple: UBER works as a pure supply-demand model. When the demand for drivers is super high, like in the rush hour, the price increases.

For me tho, even if UBER's price is not cheaper than TaxiPhone on some cases, UBER's service is far superior.

I don't disagree with you Nir on the service being far superior than that of Taxiphone Geneve but at the end of the day most of the comments here are around price and quality of service and now it seems to me that both have or are changing. Supply and demand model or not people will vote with their feet...hence my question to Eric

I believe UBER's model from day 1 is that the price changes with demand.

You also mention the service level changed for UBER: what do you mean?

Nir are you sure you're NOT speaking for Uber?? Wink

As Eric states above: As we are growing, we are / will be facing new challenges, but count on us to remain strong and confident. We have in-depth conviction that our service will:
1.) reliable solution for the customers at a more competitive price

Price - The price wasn't that competative over the weekend.

Service - if you reject the price increase fare due to high demand, then you don't have another option other than to use taxiphone geneve. That is just bad service.

As I said don't get me wrong, I have chosen Uber since I knew it existed here in Geneva and Germany on trips abroad. Love the service if it's teething problems I'll stick it out just frustrated that it's headed in the direction it is. Let's see what Eric has to say...please.

I wish I were speaking for UBER, cos that would mean I'm also getting UBER salaries...(-;

I was just reacting cos you said the price and service changed, and I didn't understand what service changes you're refering to.

I use Uber all the time to go to and from the Airport, to my surprise sometimes an Uber drive actually had a Taxi sign on the roof...

I only have good experiences with Uber in France, the US and Geneva. The only thing you need to calculate in is indeed the wait time before you can get a drive. But mostly they are there within 10 minutes.

Main reason I use Uber so much is because most taxis at the airport (arriving) do not accept credit cards, I've had many of heated arguments with these gentleman because they are actually obliged by their employer to accept cards.

But there you go, now there is a better an cheaper solution.. the joke's on them.

Sandro - perhaps a little off topic but when you use Uber from the airport, do you order once you have disembarked or do you order in advance ? cheers

Yes I do, but if I have lugguage I would wait until I have my suitcase. But usually yes straight off the plane since I only take carry on mostly.

Then you back up to check in / depards and wait for them there.. they have a hard time coming to the 'taxi' areas.
