Via ferrata for newbies?

Hi all!

Does anyone know of any groups/organizations/clubs that I can check out for an intro (or beginner-friendly outing) to via ferrata around here?  I recently moved to Geneva and I'm so keen to get into this activity but don't have experience/gear/etc. just yet!!

Any tips of where to begin would be great!

Cheers,

Steph

I don't know about stuff very close to Geneva. But if you head for Les Contamines, (or probably any of the other stations which offer summer mountain sports), you can join a group session with a guide for around 55 euros.

Actually, I'd be quite interested in this as well.  Preferably in/near the Geneva region too.

Hi Stephanie!

We have a facebook group that organises "extreme" stuff every weekend. We do plenty of different Via Ferratas and a lot of other stuff too like canyoning, rafting, airboating, hydrospeeding etc...

Anyone is wellcome to join, you can pm me if interrested (and anyone else can pm me too if feels like joing the events we do!)

And for an easy Via Ferrata I would say this has been propably the easiest that I´ve ever done:  http://www.viaferrata-fr.net/via-ferrata-71-La-via-ferrata-du-Mont-Sixt-Fer-%E0-Cheval-Haute-Savoie.html

Try the TD+ section of Via Farinetta or the ED section of Ornans and give us your feedback.

Hi Stephanie!

Recently a friend of mine recommended that I try Via Ferrata, so I was glad to see your post (which was pretty much what I was going to ask)!  Laughing

Seems as though there are some great resources here to look into.

Thanks everyone for the VF info!

Many official clubs include via ferrata outings but they concventrate more on real climbing, hiking, alpinism and ski touring. Also remember that in the case of an accident, the people in the group are not insured and the blame is placed on the most experienced person even if he is not the organiser and irrespective of any disclaimer  So, if you were to forget to clip on you might be faced with dilemma of having costs not covered by the 'leader's insurance
