Hello everybody
I am going to be coming to geneva in dec 2009 as a PhD student. I will be coming from glasgow but i'm originally from india. I was wondering what are the areas where u get good decently priced accomodation? (close to uni hospital).
Oh and what are the heating systems like in flats? are they electric or gas heating?

Hi Sahana
There's no such thing as decently priced accomodation in Geneva anymore. Housing is scare here. You'll have to get a room in someone's house or apartment, with prices ranging from 550 to 1500 francs per month. The average is 800 francs per month. You might be able to sublet a studio from someone but brace yourself for the cost!
Everything is accessible by an excellent transport system and UNI and the hospital are only 15 mins from the centre of Geneva. Place an ad in the Classifieds here and also have a look at what's on offer. Suggest you get a move on because the pool of offers is quite small compared to the demand.

hi sahana
the region around CMU and the hospital is really not the cheapest in geneva, although i was lucky enough to find a studio just 5 min foot from CMU by a decent price.
cheapest areas are those outside the center (like petit-lancy, gd-saconnex and so on), but you should start looking at websites like this:
http://www.unige.ch/dase/bulog/form/bourse.php#loue
http://www.iun.ch/index.cfm/fr/iun/student_services/housing
http://www.geneve-tourisme.ch/?rubrique=0000000020
Cheers, Wanessa

I am planning to travel to Genève in middle January 2010 alone. I am looking for one room in the center would like to share a flat with some one also a bit ecological-minded.
The flat doesn't need to be furnished, preferably with internet.
I will stay one month there only and back home
