I have a recurring lower back problem which I have been putting off getting treatment for for years but it just refuses to go away no matter how much i ignore it.
Is there a back specialist anybody would recommend?
Thanks in advance!

If there is no evidence of mechanical problems and in the absence of precise dignosis I can only recommend you to try meditation, relaxation, Pilates, Yoga, posture exercises, deep tissue massage.Takes time and perseverance, but it is possible.

Well Jimbo!
I'm quite tall and have some recurrent back pain thanks to 2 herniated disks. I'm not taking any pain killers but treating the back with physical therapy. I'm very happy with Dr. Golay in Geneva. In 2009 I couldn't even sit down or drive because of the pain in my back travelling all the way down to my knee and the scoliosis made walk like a numty and he was the one who unblocked me.

Thank you both very much for your responses. I think my problem is a herniated disk too. On and off for about 10 years. I haven't had a problem for a few months but it has just gone again... ironically the cause this time was exercises I was doing to try to strenghten muscles so this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Maybe I wasn't doing the right kind of exercises?!
All the stuff you are talking about sounds perfect Tulio but i think i need someone to take a look and point me in the right direction. Glankee, could you send me Dr. Golay's info please?

lower back pain in the case of a herniated disc is often caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve. i've had this for 5 years now, with some pain on a daily basis just from walking. sitting and driving the car are fine. i had an nmr done and was told there are 3 things that can be done. 1: surgery, 2: injections of cortisone directly into the sciatic nerve in the lumbar region, or 3: daily doses of pain killers. for now, i have done nothing. i just avoid walking very long distances. i know someone who had to have surgery because they began to lose feeling in their toes. ( the sciatic nerve was being slowly pinched due to the herniated disc) .
best to have an nmr to be sure what is going on before having any therapy.
