Flon and the train station is quite far away from each other!!!
I like Cafe Simplon which is next to the train station on the southeast side. Good food (mediterranean-ish), good prices but not that cozy. Same thing goes for Cafe Grancy (French) which is 100m south of Lausanne Gare.
There is also La Suite (Suisse-French) on Petit Chene. 200m above the Gare on the left. And Carrefour on Rue du Midi. 300m East-Northeast. Walk past La Suite and make a right. Good food. Super nice staff.
Recently I got a good reco for Pasta e Sfizi (Italian.) It's 200m east of the Gare on Ave d'Ouchy just south of where it meet Ave de la Gare.
Cafe Milan (Italian) is decent but it's next to the pornographic Theater. So I am not a frequent visitor.
If it's just a sandwich, a cup of coffee or a nice omelette that you're looking for then you might want to try Cafe Romantic on Ave de Grancy. 100m south of the station. Very cozy with beautiful pastries and breads. Good service too. it's across the street from Cafe Grancy, closer to the station.
For Sushi there is Taiyo. They have a take-away store on Petit Chene with half price sushi after 9pm most nights. And full service restaurant 50m away on Rue du Midi. It's pretty good for Switzerland. All you can eat on Mondays and Wednesdays for 48chf. It's 200m above the train station and it's kind of cozy.
If you want to go BIG. Then Au Chat Noir on Beau Sejour is the place. It's the furthest from the station. 450m East-Northeast. Best steak in the city and possibly the country. Awesome winelist. Very cozy. This is where I take guests on special occasions. It's really not that fancy decor wise. But the food is off the hook. But the prices are also strong. But it's worth it.
Hope this helps. This area is the neighborhood where I live.
