Hi,
I'm looking for a sailing school, has anyone been or know one? I know there is one in Ouchy which i need to find out about - unless you have any info/experience with them?
Thanks!
Indy

Hi Indy,
yes, there is a club.
Check out the webpage www.CUST.ch
There's also a sailing school, where you can take lessons and which is a school to get your sailing permit. It's like a driving school, and as expensive. You still don't have a boat to sail on however. http://www.ecole-de-voile.ch/
There's another club, where you can rent boats cheap, you need a permit however. http://club-folle-brise.ch/
The CUST however, is a "regatta school", you do not get lessons to pass your permit, but you train with the other members to sail in competitions. You train and sail with the club's skippers on the club's boats.
You can start there as absolute beginner (which was I did last year), and you are tought anything you need to know about sailing. It's a lot of fun, a lot of young people, a lot of beginners at all levels, simply a great club ;-))
If you want further information, I'd suggest you send me a message, and we meet or give each other a call, so I can answer all your questions in a few minutes, instead of writing a 5 page essay about the club ;-P

Hi Dominik,
Thanks a lot for the post, I was also interested.
May I ask you a quick question although? Do you know if the people for training with are only french-speakers? For me it's been this what brought my interest down.
Many thanks again for the information, appreciated!
Regards!

Yes, for the CUST you need to be more or less fluent in French.
Some skippers speak English, not many though, and certainly not fluent. Also some members speak no English, so even if the skipper was fluent, he'd have to repeat each command twice. That's simply not an option in a regatta...
As for the school and the "Folle brise" club I have no idea. I don't know them, only that they exist. But since the school needs to cater also to tourists, I'd guess he speaks English.

Hi Dominik,
Thanks a lot for the information! It's really helpful. I'm also looking for something in english, my French is still at a pretty basic level. I'll get back in tough if i have any more questions - thanks for the offer!
Daniel - if your also looking for something in English, think its possible to 'buddy up' for small group lessons, if we can find an instructor? Otherwise let me know if you find anything, and like wise i'll let you know!
Thanks,
Indy

Hi Indy,
Of course, count me in!, it'd be great if we can find an english-speaker instructor.
Will keep trying to find someone, crossing fingers!

Daniel

I know this post is regarding Lausanne, but just in case I wanted to let you know that I give sailing lessons in English in Geneva. Here is what I have just sent out to my students. If you really don't find any anyone to teach in Lausanne, I could come and teach, but you would need to find/rent a boat locally as it is a bit far to bring mine all the way to Lausanne.
Dear sailors and friends,
I'm happy to announce that I'm now back in Geneva and will resume my sailing classes this week.
As in previous years, I will be giving several lessons per day.
The schedule is the following, but if you wish to change the times or have a morning lesson, please let me know, I am very flexible.
Monday through Sunday
13:30-15:30
16:00-18:00
18:30-20:30
Please visit www.genevasailing.com for further information and reservations (http://www.genevasailing.com/Schedule_%26_Booking.html)
The prices are 60.- CHF per person in a group (min 2, max 4 students) and 200.- for a private lesson. Each lesson is 2 hours.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you on board!
Patrick
PS: I will also organize After Work evening outings, just for fun and drinks. It will be posted in Glocals activities (www.glocals.com). If you know someone who has a boat (sail or motor), please let me know so we can take more people.

Hi there! I know sailing season is kind of over -- don't have a sailing school or classes but I do have a boat in Vidy.
Maybe some of us aquatic glocals can go out sailing in spring?
Cheers
Steph
