A bit late but here goes...
I should have posted this first once I got access to posting.Anyway here's the intro. It probably duplicate most in the member's profile.

I moved with my wife and young daughter to a small village near Morges in early April. Originally I am from Kent in England and lived there all my life. We got jaded with life in England for specific personal reasons and some general things...too dirty, too chavvy/yobbish culture. Anyway we decided over a year ago to take the plunge and move to Switzerland. My wife has several relatives over here. This has meant selling up and shifting nearly all our belongings over here. we did a self move where we hired a firend and large van and drove from England, through France and into Switzerland. Spent ages logging all items being transported and having the appropiate customs forms filled in and they were not even checked. Got an apartment through a combination homegate website and one of my wife's relatives.

Three months in and I do not know if I am going to settle in. At first I missed a few little things from England...tv, pasteurised milk but can live without them. The main thing I miss is the job opportunities in England. It seems so slow and very restrictive here. Had a couple of interviews and the companies seem surprised that I am willing to travel more than a hour for work. Visitted many agencies and I'm not that impressed, there are a few good people in them though. Agencies are very different here and very specific and just do not seem to grasp vagueness and the concept of wanting to do any job. Anyone else unemployed finiding the same? I am fairly resigned to becoming a house dad and look after my daughter while my wife goes to work.

Not really happy with the apartment either, it's great inside but the location is not good, stuck next to a busy junction so it gets noisy from about 6am til 9am. Combine this with the upstairs neighbours who thought it was a good idea to play drums 3 or 4 times a day. Thankfully that stopped after a couple of complaints to the landlord but you'd think they would learn how to shut doors without slamming them and bang around. We are resolved to get out of the place at 6 months and look for somewhere closer to Geneva. I do not know if we are unlucky with the place or I am unable to adapt to apartment living. Big moan over and done with

So I don't come across as being entirely negative here are a few things I do like about Switzerland. Generally it's a lot cleaner, and fresher then England. Seems yob free as well. The police look as though they mean business...you don't mess with people with guns. Great views in many places. Yesterday I drove from Signal de Bougy to Rolle and the view down the mountainside looking across the lake was great. Switzerland seems to cater for parents a bit more than England with small play areas for children in most shopping centres, and gently sloped moving walkways, which are great for pushchairs.

Not a drinker so I am a bit reluctant to throw myself into a big group activity at present. prefer small groups and i am a fairly quiet person. Drop me a line, or chat if you feel.
Welcome !

As it is the weekend - plus there was Julian's BBQ last night - there are not many people on line.

I know it is not easy to adapt in the beginning - if you are missing British TV - download Zattoo onto your PC - you can get BBC one and ITV - to watch your favourite programs !

I hope you can get the noise problem sorted out and wish you and your family well !

Take your pick of the activities ! there is something for everyone :)
thanks for your reply. I think the noise problem is unresolvable but will try to get a top floor apartment or a duplex, so there is no one above. If it is still a problem then I guess it's a personal problem with me and take it from there
