Belgian guy in Fribourg

Hello everyone!

I arrived in Fribourg last week. My name is David, I am from Belgium and I will work as a analyst-programmer in a small printing company.

I hope my new life in Switzerland will be exciting and I will get the opportunity to meet some of you.

Cheers!

Fribourg can be boring, but once you understand how it works, you can live through it. Besides, its a great city to live in considering prices.

Frivourg is a university town. Im doing my masters there, even though Im now on a 1 year contract in Geneva.

Most students go home to their villages on the weekend. Thats when the high school kids go out to party. Stay away from the clubs on weekends. The TM winebar on rue de lausanne is pretty greta. So is the pub.

The uni students come back to fribourg on sunday and monday. monday night, or Crazy Mondays as it is called is when fribourg becomes fun. Seriously...its true. Sometimes they call it fuck tuesday becuause you, well..fuck off the day tuesday.

If you want to party hard, there are many student fraternities in fribourg. i was in one. But you must be a student to join one in most frats. They doorganize parties open to everyone tho sometimes. I am going back to fribourg by the end of the month to get fucked up drunk.

If you want to be part of the community go to cafe du gothard. Great food there. For great lunches, go to the university campuses, especially perolles mensa..cheap food at is heavily subsidized by the gov.

If you want to go to a real club, Globulle in Bulle.otherwise, the fribourg cluns which are more like bars are best on mondays. Did i mention thatthe pub has a second story whichserves as the dance floor? Its pretty cool

Have fun in fribbi! If you start to hate it, well youre only 22 mins away from bern and less than an hour to lausanne!

Paul

Hello David, Belgian guy...

Sorry, I have to ask this...Flamand or Wallon?? :) What town?

I myself am a Dutch citizen, but my mother was from Gent and I have very good memories of Belgium and a lot of family still there...

I noticed that some of you replies call Fribourg boring, but I think it is a beautiful town, historically and archtecturally very interesting - the surroundings too... I love visiting that town.

My husband and I live in Geneva now (arrived 2010) from the US but he grew up here and we wanted to come back to Europe. We're both in the 50+ age-group - so no wild partying- but we like good food and beer :)

Come and see us in beautiful Geneva :)

Andrea.
