New to Switzerland, trying to meet people and go around to see places - any suggestions?

Hi, I just arrived in Switzerland from the US. Currently living in a small village called Villigen near Brugg/Baden. I am enjoying Switzerland so far but I am desperate to see all the good places around the soonest possile - I just can't wait. Apart from the regular touristy spots such as interlaken, Englebern, what other good places are in the must visit list? I am also looking forward to do some paragliding, skydiving, and hiking. If there is anyone interested do contact me!

Thanks!

Hi Chaitanya,

Looking at ur interests, i wud say first thing is, to be in or around Zurich or Winterthur to be farthest. I dunno how far u r from Zurich cuz i havent heard of this village you are talking of.

Glocals simply rocks as far as meeting and socialising events are concerned. I would also suggest you to log in to www.meetup.com which is widely used for the similar purpose, many things overlapping. I will not want to comment what is better because i feel both are working very well. Suggested you another site only because there is a group called "Zurich Hike & Outdoor" on meetup.com and it is very active for your hiking paragliding etc interests. I have been a regular hiker with that group and so far the experience has been fantastic. I am not sure how much u will b able to hike once snow starts but i can already see quite a few plans for skiing if u r interested...

Hope this helps...

see you at seefeld drinks this saturday nite.

Well Adarsh, nothing that i have come across yet. But I see you have ehsaan in ur friends list. he is most active indian around (havent met him yet but at least i get to hear his name from expats). he shud b able to help on that.

There is some indian community in zurich, forgot the name but they even have website. They r into arranging these occassional cultural programs n all, nothing that i ever bothered to check :)

For me at least, people are either Swiss or expats... if they are expats, then doesn't matter what nationality they carry. They r all good...!

Have a nice time here and hope to see you soon some time...

Great!! Thanks Vishal! I found meetup.com quite interesting - thanks for the suggestion. I would love to live somewhere near Zurich. Unfortunately, I work at PSI and live in their guesthouse! Actually, before arriving here I didn't think its such a big deal since I live just 45 km away from Zurich. This distance is nothing compared to a distances either in Indian cities or US. But here it makes such a big difference! This place, as I said is small village out of nowhere and there is absolutely nothing to do here. It doesn't even feel that Zurich is 45 minutes away.

I am quite excited about the group "Zurich Hike and Outdoor". I am eager to participate in one of their upcoming trips.

Yup, see you on Saturday! You are right, glocals rocks!
