Hello forum
I am moving to Geneva in October, and I would like to meet new people and hopefully join a french-group.
I have already been the victim of a flat-share scam, so very wary of the on-line rental offers. Is anyone looking for a flat-mate, starting in October, for 6 months, or do you know someone who is? I'm going to be earning peanuts as an intern, so can only really afford a maximum of 700 CHF/month. But I'm friendly and clean and considerate, and a professional architect.
Thank you for you help,
Liz

Hey Liz,
Welcome (soon) to Geneva!
Zut, so the scammers got you already! How did the scam work (so others can watch out)?
Re finding a flatmate, suggest you look it up, and post something about it, on the Geneva apartments for rent section on glocals.
Bon chance!
Nir

Hi Nir,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, scammers seem to be rife! I fear that all the postings are scam, given my recent lucky escape. I haven't lost the money (yet!). The advert just got better and better, they sent photos, and said that the girl (22 yr old working for and NGO in Geneva) living in her (deceased) father's flat. She insisted that their 'family lawyer" write up a contract etc etc but would require me to "secure the room" with a deposit. I put an end to it because I have my someone there who is willing to view the flats to authenticate the flat, and I demanded the details of the family lawyer, who I insisted would be the keeper of the deposit, not the private account. Suddenly they are gone...
I'm lucky because I can verify that they are for real by sending a friend to see the flat but other people may not be able to do that.
So now I look at every edvert and think it is a fake. It is very frustrating, not to mention a waste of my time.
I have been looking on the glocal page, but there are very few.
Nice to 'meet' you.
Liz
