Brazilian Night in Psycho. What do you think??

On Saturday we went to Psycho expecting Brazilian Carnival atmosphere, but From 12.20 to 1.30 am while we were there we didn't see any samba competition or brazilian drummers...And the music was not at all Brazilian or at list Latino.... Was there anything that night? Hope, I just missed it and people had fun...

Well, I also didn't enjoy. It was my first time in Psycho and, to be true, I was very disappointed. The atmosphere was not very good, not the music! Even had a very unpolite bartender!

And the brazilian entertainers that every once in a while showed up were actually "ruinning the mood" because everything else was not in the Brazilian style.

Hope my next time there will be more memorable though.

Being brazilian and loving Carnival, I'm glad I didn't go.

I've noticed that the "Brazilian brand" is being used indiscriminately outside Brazil to attract people to so called "Brazilian" restaurants, night clubs and parties. For example, the caipirinhas served on Geneva Festival during the summer are pretty bad.

Anyway, this happens with lots of other natiolaties too, so no surprises there.

I agree with you, the music was definitely of 80s but then it should have been called the party of 80s but not carnival... I felt sorry for the guys who organised the party and failed, because people evidently were disappointed... And I am not sure I would come back to club. Do you know any other place in Geneva where there is a night life? Thank you;)

Maybe, last year we were in Rio too, this is the only reason we were attracted to the "Carnival" party here....

Actually I had a great time on friday and I like Psycho. but it was not a Brazilian party and with all they said on the e-mails for sure it was very disappointing.

@ geojusto - I agree with you! the caipirinhas at fete de Geneve were terrible, it was a bad cachaça with lots of sugar...

I love carnaval too and I am sad that I could not find anything that reminded me of it a little bit...

Hi everyone,

I think your point of view is really hard actually about the brazilian party. To me, it was well organized and have done everything on the email, animation, decoration...

Hi again,

Hum I was there friday and saturday and I have seen downtairs the differents animations, 3 actually, the first one was a demonstration of bresilian dance, the second a demonstration of capoeira and the third the five people dancing alone and with people. But I am not critizing your point of you, I just have a different one because firstly I really enjoyed myself and I think like most of the people there. You're maybe 10  to be disappointed but 200 were not and spend as you send a wonderful time.

Good afeternoon Robi

Dear Amandine, just out of curiosity, can u tell me please when was anything happening there. I was on Saturday prime time, and n-o-t-hing! Even the music was not at all brazilian, and the only decoration was paper something hanging from the ceiling...I really hope that the night was successful, but for too many people it was not, though we all came prepared to plunge into carnival atmosphere which was so advertised, but it was the worst clubbing night I have ever experienced.... If there were no expectations which were provoced by psycho advertising, it would be ok...Was something happening at 11pm, and then at 2am?

But I am happy for the 200(?) people who were happy|;) Cheers!

Hey guys, I was there Saturday night from 1am to 4am more or less and saw a couple of performances. Maybe because I didn't go with the idea of the Brazilian party I actually enjoyed a lot.

It was my first time and for sure not the last one, compared to what I've seen in geneva so far I was really pleased with the music and atmosphere. The prices are quite abusive as usual.. but we got compensated with the croissants around 4am, a really nice detail.

Yo all,

I'm one of the guys helping run glocals.com. And Psycho is reserved for glocals + Sindy memebrs on weekends, I was involved in the Brazil Night planning.

So a few quick points:

1. Thanks for all the feedback - much appreciated.

2. Ofcourse there were Brazil dancers & drum players, and the guests who saw & danced & jumped with them loved em. I'm sorry some folks missed them.

3. From this thread, I take away 2 things for next time:

- The animation needs to be more visible.
The dancers came out 3 times last weekend, each time for ca 15 min. But maybe next time some dancers need to be permanently around the entrance to help welcome guests. Since Robi & Paula are brazilian, we'll offer them the the job...(-:

- We need to manage expectations of what will happen in the party in a better way.
For example, the pre-party email clearly stated that 'the music will still be regular club music'. Yet from this thread, it seems some folks expected Brazil music. So next time, we need to be clearer.

4. To be 100% open again: glocals.com niether owns nor manages Psycho. Simply, weekend parties at Psycho are reserved for glocals members.

Any more feedback welcome,

Nir

I agree the thread did say regular club music but the party was advertised as being brazilian carnival. In my opinion, a party is not a brazilian carnival party unless it plays at least a bit of brazilian music, and from that point of view it was really disappointing. I think that for people who have experienced either brazilian carnival or brazilian parties in Europe with the music and all, that's where they could have felt a bit let down by the party. And what happened to the samba competition? I was hoping to win Laughing

But otherwise I do understand that it was specified on the ad beforehand...

It's cool now coz you do have at least a full year to prepare for the next one Cool

Hey Nir!!

Thanks for the idea and hearing our thoughts :)

As I said I had a great time at Psycho on Friday anyway (always have) , danced a lot and the guys playing capoeira were great!

I did not see the drum players and I stayed there all night on Friday... I did see some dancers going downstairs when I was going to get some drinks but when I went to see them they where already gone, it was very fast... I think you are right for next time + I think they should also have danced more time...

hahahaha thanks for the job and as Robi said, as long as I don't have to wear those bikinis no problem :)

About the music, I didn't expect to have Brazilian music all night long, its true that the e-mails were clear that 'the music will still be regular club music', but carnaval without samba is not carnaval hehehe so I thought it might be on the top floor (as the music there is usually different), or played from time to time or something like that, but I didn't hear Brazilian music at all :(

And as Emma reminded, I missed the samba competition, I told all my friends to go for it :)

the party was great as usual! I always have fun at psycho, I just guess that we (me at least) are missing Carnaval and with the add was really excited about it, hoping to have big carnaval/ Brazilian party :)

Dear Nir,

Though the Brazilian party was not a success but I really do appreciate your effort to make this Sleeeepy Geneva different and alive, and it's great that it's only for glocals, it gives the opportunity to meet warm friendly internationals who by destiny found their temporary home here...Otherwise it's too sad to face only cold locals with their disrespect to all who don't speak french. Thanks for your idea, and only the one is not making mistakes who is doing nothing.

But please, make sure to do your best to make a great Brazilian night next year! If you need advice or ideas, just jump on this forum and people will help you;)

I will do my best to be at the next year's party if i still will be here;)

Alll the best to all glocals who are hungry for events in this paradise for the rich retired.

By the way, does anyone know where I can find yoga classes, maybe combined with philisofical talks or belly dance. I miss it so much here;)

Thanks for all your replies, I haven't imagined that my thread will provoke so much discussion. Now I see that glocals always have something to say and are happy to be heared here;)
