Saintélyon 2009

Let me start by saying Swiss and Bert I REALLY missed the two of you not being there, doing an "ultra" without you seemed weird! Any the train rides really boring :-)

What can I say, thanks Bert for recommending this race on glocals.

The race is 69kms, +1300m and -1700m and it starts at MIDNIGHT !

The weather was perfect around 2-4°c the whole time, didn't feel cold once. Underfoot when on the trails though it was horrendous, really sticky thick mud in parts, then treacherous wet rocks in others.

Kms 40-54 I really suffered and started playing mind games with myself but then when I saw the sign saying 25 kms left, for some reason this really made me push harder and I eventually ran (if you can call it that) over the finish line. One thing about this race, it really is the coolest finisher T-shirt I have ever received :-)

Anyway, won't bore you with a whole report but suffice to say, this is one to add to the Glocals calendar, it has everything you need, great atmosphere, (at 10.30 p.m. we were watching an agricultural show with cows being judged to pass the time..I kid you not), it is for runners and good walkers and basically just a great race.

Thanks again Bert. I owe you a beer !
