Just went to Barcelona for the weekend and had a fab time so if anyone's thinking of going I'd say go for it!
I stayed in the Centric point youth hostel which was excellent - great location - right next to Gaudi's houses and metro stops, 5-10 min walk to las ramblas. very friendly, helpful staff, CLEAN, free breakfast and at less than 60euros for 3 nights - bargain. dorms of 12 people -so not everyones cuppa!
I visited most of the main tourist attractions and they were heaving with tourists! but worth seeing - the sagrada familia is stunning and the museum thats with it is realy worth a visit. Gaudi's houses (casa batllo is the one i visited) were really worth seeing too. Park Guell was great for chilling in the sun and had some stunning views over all of barcelona, but again heaving with tourists. the fountains at park monjuic were stunning - they dance to music. check out the times and days before heading there tho but REALLY worth seeing. the beach is a dive and dirty and horrible. dont bother with that. the olympic village has LOADS of bars and if you play your cards right you dont need to pay for a drink all night - they are all competing to get you in! The cathedral in the old town is pretty similar on the inside to most cathedrals iv seen before but worth a visit if you've got time - theres a cool outdoor bit to it with turtle and fish and swans.and just wandering around the old town is pretty cool too. the food market off la rambla is a must but packed with people! you see so many different types of food there. theres a nice garden area that was cool to walk thru in the evening next to the museum of art which is by the dancing fountains. and there is a nice cheap food place half way down las rambla called maoz or moaz... it does falafels and a vegetarian buffet which you put in your pitta bread type thing and you can keep going up for more until your stuffed. nice stuff for under 4 euros. all in all fantastic weekend!
