Gva - NY airlines

hi all,

I will be travelling to NY in early October and I saw there are 3 airlines with direct flights Geneva - New York:

Swiss

Continental

United

apart from the landing airport (JFK vs. Newark) and the price (Swiss is the most expensive) is there any airlines which is better/worse than the others?

any recommendation is very welcome!

I fly the Continental flight to Newark numerous times throughout the year and have found it to be very workable for me. It arrives in Newark at noon local and provides enough time for you to still do some business during the day, if that's what your intent is.

thanks a lot, it is the airline I wanted to choose in the first place but just wanted the opinion of someone who already used it.

Same here: Swiss is very comfortable and the scheduling is quite convenient, especially JFK-GVA leaving sufficiently late to let you enjoy the afternoon in the Big Apple and then early enough to go straight to work upon arrival. I flew them in March this year.

If you travel in Business class, make sure you get a single seat window seat -- that is, unless you're travelling with someone.

Yes, definitely Continental from NJ to GVA: last year our friends who live over there came for $256, but I do not know whether it is as inexpensive this way round. You could always try a "reverse booking" and see if that works. Good luck.

Instead of booking GVA-Newark,

book Newark-GVA [some airlines will allow this, however payment might be a small problem, but it can be done]

Well before somebody is doing that, i wouldn't i work since 14years in the airlinebusiness and airlinetickets should be flown in sequence. so it's not really the best advice to give people and then they are stranded and have to buy a new ticket.

we got discusion almost daily with passengers here at the airport.

Hello ppl.

There are some people recommending business class in Swiss.  However, i found the prices for round trip at 6000 chf,

Is it worthwhile?

Prices are mostly flat throughout the month, it seems.   Swiss, Continental, and Untied are the only non-stop options.  Continental and Untied both have the option of GVA - JFK or GVA - EWR; I think Swiss has GVA - JFK only.

I would personally go to JFK since EWR's on-time record is poor.

Departing from ZRH is more expensive, FYI.

OK, you are actually looking at only 2 airlines here.  That is Swiss and Continental-United.

Continental and United Airlines have merged and so they are just one airline at the moment.

Another thing to consider is British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, you can get good flights from GVA to EWR (Newark) or JFK.  If you book through a website like expedia.com or something similar, then you can mix and match better with the airlines and can sometimes get even better deals.

Whoever got the tickets for $256, that's amazing!  I am from NJ and I fly there a few times a year, I don't think I've ever seen a ticket that cheap.

at the end I chose Continental, flying to Newark, 513CHF return ticket, I think it's a good deal.

Thanks to all for your contribution!
