I don't remember the company, but bring a "mosquito net" for your head/hat - they'll eat you alive.

I did 1.5 hrs of pony riding in Iceland last February and even though I had no problems with mosquitoes, it was windy and cold, and the horse was mean and stubborn.  It also takes some time to walk properly after the ride, but I strongly recommend it :)

Its not all that bad, I think most of them aren't even mosquitoes, (of course that refers to summer) so they don't seem to bite, but they get really nasty flying around your face. So, as long as you protect your head, you're in for a fantastic outdoors experience in a great landscape.

I can recommend kontiki.ch or glur.ch. They're Scandinavian travel specialists. I went to an Iceland trip organised by Kontiki and was very content.

I went on a general trip, but Kontiki offers also horse riding trips:

As far as I know they also help you to find your individual program

Hi,

I went on a riding tour on Iceland two weeks ago arranged through IcelandExcursions, and I really recommend this!

The horses were very nice, gentle but full of power, and the people running the place were lovely. They suited well the horses and activity level to the experience of the riders. I had only one day in Iceland, so did a combination tour with horseriding and the blue lagoon, but they also arrange longer trips. Transport and everything was taken care of.

You can find more info on this link:

Good luck!!

Hi,

I have booked direct from Ishestar or Eldhestar, http://ishestar.is/ and http://eldhestar.is/. They have excellent guides who can choose the right horse for you (all icelandic horses are wonderful though ;) ). For longer tours you need to have some riding experience, but day tours are normally for anyone. I recommend for example Eldhestar Hot Springs Tour - really nice and unique experience! And often pick up from hotel is included.

Have fun in Iceland! Really love that country - horses and nature are amazing.

You can book from the city.  And there are pretty good tours.  I used this company and did the full Viking tour

http://www.ishestar.is/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=riding-iceland-europe

Really enjoyed it.  The other option is if your spending a bit of time there and traveling around (in a hire car).  Almost all of the farms will allow you to drop in and organise a tour for you there and then and you pay the farm directly.  This is pretty cool as its informal and personal, not surrounded by all the other tourists
