Hi, I usually take the train trough Basel – it takes about 7.5 hours to reach Bonn. The return ticket is about 255 CHF (I have a half-fare card). The one-year card costs 150 CHF (http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/abonnemente/halbtax.htm).

Hope this is of help and wish you a nice journey to Bonn/Cologne.

Never went by bus, so donno about them … sorry.

I am afraid there are no direct trains :o( ... However, the change in Basel is not complicated and usually there are plenty of time to do it (some 30-45 minutes in between the two trains). Also, it is always better to have a reserved seat for the German train, as it might be quite full in summer. Not sure how much would be a one-way ticket, but it would be definitely cheaper than the air-fair, as there are no low-budget flights (or at least there were none half a year ago).
