A reasonably priced hotel next to the water is  l'Hotel Suisse ..I haven't stayed there but it was highly recommended by a friend.  Of course you are entering high season so prices will have gone up.:w00t:

Hi

Sorry, don't remember the names of the OK priced hotels I stayed in Nice, but if I my brain is not still too sleepy (haven't had my coffee yet, so a bit risky to trust me ;)

http://www.hotel-villa-eden-nice.cote.azur.fr/map_fr.htm

was quite OK... of course, don't expect the cheaper rooms to look like on the HP...but really across street to beach

I think that's where we had a room in the basement (sous-sol) whith only a curtain to the "ensuite" bathroom-but there was a real "throne" (stairs with carpet to the throne IN the common toilet (wasn't a fully equipped bathroom) - enlightened by glass bricks behind it ;)

http://www.flotsdazur.com/francais/hotel_flots_d_azur_nice_promenade_des_anglais.html

with a nice terrasse for having a far too expensive breakfast (better get something in a patisserie nearby ;)

Now pretty sure -even w/o coffee that the 2 are the right ones (next to each other). Walking distance to city center, restaurants, shops and even laverie close...

Have fun!

I stayed at this hotel about 3 years ago and it was really nice http://www.le-grimaldi.com/

Close to the centre, spacious rooms/bathrooms and a friendly atmosphere.

Hope you have a good time.

Hi

I can confirm, the Grimaldi is a nice place to stay. I stayed there this april for two nights. But be carefull, they have different room sizes. Make sure you won't be given a small one because otherwise it is nothing special. It is very well located close to the old part of town, the shopping area and the sea.

OK, sounds good. Just one last hint.

We arrived early in the morning at 1am and they gave us as very small room. For around 180 euros. I went downstairs and we got a room probably 4-5 times bigger. They kept very friendly after this "incident".

Nice is really nice. I you want some more tips, tell me.

I have stayed at the hotel suisse. For a hotel on the seafront with floor to ceiling door windows and balconies with a view on the whole bay .. its a bargain.

If you want somewhere really nice and price isnt a problem, go for La Perouse. 10 times better than the 'grand hotels'
