Hello Glocals,
i've been searching the forum for some answers regarding the degree of safety in traveling by night from Geneva to Lausanne or viceversa. I'm particularly interested in your opinion where the train is concerned...is traveling from Geneva to Lausanne by night risky? you know...being female and probably dressed up for partying (not too much but still..) how many creeps am i likely to encounter?
I think i should probably start a Self-Defense course... -.-
Thankssss ;)

hi Nicole,
I travelled from Geneva to Lausanne and viceversa (I lived in both towns) alone at night a few times and I have never had troubles. Obviously it is not unusual to find lively and not so sober bunch of boys & girls but nothing that can be defined dangerous really. And as long as you apply common sense, you'll be fine (e.g. avoid to sit in empty coaches).

As Federica mentioned it is relatively safe. Don't sit in empty coaches and do not make eye contact at people bc once they start talking it is very difficult to make them stop and then they can get overly friendly especially at night. Don't wear anything too skimpy bc Geneva train station is kind of shady...Lausanne is totally safe though. You will be fine - just be careful and mindful of ur surroundings.

like they say above: don't sit in empty seats
and if you carry a gun, only use it when you need to get a seat in a full train.
also, you can offer swiss chocolate ( keep the gun hidden ) to others who appear dangerous.
always say "Hey Man" when you want to appear rough and tough, and remember, don't look like a foreigner - don't carry a map or train guide to the london underground.

I've been on this route late at night on many occasions. I've never seen any problems. I feel safer on the train than I do at the stations, especially Geneva, Nyon, and Lausanne.

I don't travel by train, but that would be my guess: trains are safe, the areas around Geneva central station may be less so.

Ive seen the trains at night well patrolled by police, so this tends to keep the rowdyness to a minimum.

I guess at this point the only rough spot is Geneva train station ... hmm...
I suppose running like hell to the correct track for Lausanne could be an option ahahhahaaha (i'm laughing cause with high heels i'm sure it would be pretty funny to see).
Or i could just bring along a tracksuit with me, to put on after partying LOL!
Thank glocals, preciuos advice from you all is very appreciated!!

Don't run but take a spare pair of Nikes along for the travel, then carry a mysterious "doggy"bag with secret weapon inside which you'll open at end station and put your 3 inch high heels when you arrive at the party ;-).
