Scenic route to Munich?
We'll be renting a car to drive to Munich at the end of April and since we don't usually drive we have a few questions for you regular drivers out there:

1) How many hours should we plan for the drive from Geneva to Munich if going the most direct route via Bern-Zürich?

2) We've considered driving via Interlaken-Luzern to see this area on the way but is it really worth it when we won't have much time to explore?

3) Our car will be quite heavely loaded. Would this be a problem on smaller mountain roads at the end of April if we decide to explore on the way?

Thanks guys!

Option one : Direct (~6 hours)

Agrandir le plan

Option 2 : Scenic route (~7 1/2 hours)

I'd be careful with a heavily loaded car in April. The Jaunpass is open all year round but still has to close in ase of heay snow falls
The short route takes at least six hours in optimal conditions. Easily more if you get caught in a bottleneck around the usual black spots (Zürich, Austrian border crossing, Pfänder tunnel, Memmingen motorway construction works, München entrances).

The scenic route far longer than 8 hours.

Non-frequent driver, loaded car, April, mountain roads- that's asking for trouble, but it's only my 0.02 CHF.
Yeah. If you really, really want to do this, get your car through service (brakes!) a week or two before the trip and make a "small" (3-4 hour) trip in advance.

Driving up & down passes is fun - unless you sit in a car where the brakes get softer and softer every turn.

Yes, the above (non-frequent driver, loaded car, April, mountain roads) is our concerns as well. We might just stick to the regular route (where there wouldn't be too much driving up and down, right?) then.

Thanks for your replies - they are much appreciated!
