am travelling with a friend to NYC very soon, and would be happy for any tips regarding accomodation that does not cost a fortune.

I lived in the Gershwin for about 2 weeks, 10 years ago when I first arrived to New York. It has a lot of character and I met alot of really cool people. I have no idea what it costs now but I remember it was $27/night a decade ago. Oh the memories :-)
