1) LaGuardia (LGA), John F. Kennedy (JFK), or Newark (EWR)

2) LaGuardia is the closest. It is an easy trip by shuttle or taxi (more expensive) into the city. In the arrival area (baggage claim) in all three airports there are stations clearly labeled "SHUTTLES TO MANHATTAN" so you will not have any trouble.

3) Sites for booking tickets? Try expedia.com or travelocity.com or something like that.

Gute Reise,

Laura Anne

Then you have 2 direct choices:

1. Continental Airlines to Newark EWR(flt departs GVA @ 09:00 AM)

2. Swiss to JFK (flt departs @ 12:00 Noon)

fly safe

If you're shooting for midtown Manhattan and don't have an unbearable amount of luggage, I would recommend flying into Newark.  The AIRtrain takes a few minutes to get from the airport to Newark Penn Station, and then it is 17 minutes on NJTransit to NY Penn Station.  Both run frequently and it will total you about 12 USD.

Newark is also a good option if you're headed to lower Manhattan.  However, instead of taking NJTransit from Newark Penn to NY Penn, you would take the (similarly timed) PATH train from Newark Penn to an appropriate destination (ie WTC).

No problem.  If you end up at JFK, there are unlicensed car services that you can call an hour or less in advance.  I could recommend one I used to regularly call to take me through Brooklyn for 30 USD flat.  Not sure of rate to Manhattan but would be cheaper than a yellow cab and faster than a shuttle or mass transit.  But you'd have to disregard official warnings about unlicensed rides :)

Sawasdee-pi-mai-kaa!

There is an excellent Thai food place in Queens, the best I've had in the US/best outside of Thailand. I don't remember the name but it isn't far from LaGuardia, and after 11pm it turns into a Thai karaoke bar. If you want to stay cheaper and close to Manhattan, the neighborhood Astoria in Queens is safe, residential, and about 20 minutes from Manhattan via subway but for much cheaper than a Manhattan hotel.

I would also talk to the Thai embassy about a visa and where to stay.

Enjoy!

Cheap flights via Dublin with Aer Lingus from Geneva, further if you go this way you can clear US immigration in Dublin (US have a border control in 2 Irish airports) before boarding the flight so no queues when you land in NYC. I have on occasion taken the train and it's not that difficult with a simple backpack, you change train once. Or alternatively chat with some fellow passengers and share a cab to a common drop off in New york.

Enjoy.
