transport of the cat from CH to UK

Hello,

After moving myself, I would like to bring my cat from CH (Lausanne) to the UK (Portsmouth). It seems quite complicated and expensive.. I would like to fly her with me in the beginning of January.

Does someone has any experience? I will be very grateful for any hints.

Renata

you should check the UK quarrantine laws... and vetinary requirements first.

the cat would most likely need to have valid anti rabies shots, over a given time, and i think "at least" 6 mths ago or it will need to stay in quarrantine for 6 mths on arrival in the UK.

Friends of ours took their cats on an Air France flight in a special container in the actual plane with them for only the cost of the air france pet boxes.. I would assume as Charlie said, you need to do all the vaccines and stuff but I think main stream airlines will allow you to take them on board.

I did try moving my own cats to the UK a couple of years ago but did not do it in the end. You must start by a visit to the vet asap, then see the vet again shortly before departure (I think it has to be 40 days later). There is paperwork for that. Then there is the journey by plane, which entails more paperwork, and quite frankly, a lot of money. All in all, it is difficult. Good luck.

(btw, I am now back in Gva ... with my cats :-))

Thank you. I should add that vet, cat passport, and quarantine is done. Actually the low will change in the UK from Jan 01, 2011 and animals can be bring to the UK 21 days after rabies vaccination, not after 7 months as it is now..

However it seems that I have to pass by a specialized agency and they charge a lot of money.

Kevin, when your friends brought their cats to the UK?
