Hike Arlesheim to Muttenz (see comment!)
Saturday, October 4th, 2014 @ 10:00
Arlesheim, Gempen, Muttenz, Basel
This is a more hiking than sightseeing focused version of a hike I did last year.
Starting in Arlesheim Dorf (Tramstation line number 10, 330 m) we start the climb passing the ruins of Dorneck, one of the largest castles of the region to the peak of Gempen (760 m). On good days, we should be able to see the alps from the tower on the hill. Here we will have a break, maybe even at the Restaurant.
From there we continue north towards the Schauenburgerfluh, then Wartenberg, where the three ruins are, which are shown in the crest of Muttenz. Final stop is the fortified church of Muttenz from where we can take the tram 14 back to Basel.
The hike takes about 4.5 hours, add an hour for sightseeing and breaks and we should be back in Basel at 15:00 to 16:00.
