I just posted diwali dinner on friday...diwali is festival of lights, google it for the history. In the north people prepare veetarian dishes and sweets and savories. There is special way celebrating diwali in tamil nadu especially in the villages. In my house and my grandma's, since diwali is looked at as spirit of happiness, we consider it as an occasion to celbrate our prosperity. My grandfather is a farmer, we are not pure vegetarians, when we celebrate occasions in temples, we eat meat and we also offer it to the gods of safety, in order to give them strength and offcourse to strengthen ourselves. And meat is not something we could eat daily, its only cooked on special occasion upon arrival of guests, wedding, a birthday or a feasty family celebration or some weekends.
So on diwali day unlike north india where people go veg, in my hometown my grandmother goes to the market and gets fish and lamb meat etc.,. we would take oil bath in the morning as early as 5-6:00 am then indulge in some fireworks and light lamps, and make the best kolam to decorate the entry of the house, eat diwali savories and wait impatiently, smelling the curries cooked in the kitchen and have a nice feisty lunch later chatting. and I thought I can post a lunch inspired by this theme. so the menu is designed that way.
so for the menu its typically what we make at home for diwali.
we will start with some savories me and my sis made for diwali,
mutton biriyani - rice cooked with lamb and spices.
chicken kozhumbu chicken cookes in combinations of spices and cocount.
white rice.
rasam - a soup mostly cumin, pepper flavors supposed to aid healthy digestive system.
yoghurt rice - rice made with spiced yoghurt
raita - vegetables in yoghurt, goes well with biriyani
papadam - indian lentil fritters
payasam - dessert.
and then we can have some tea…
Its mostly nice to have this menu for lunch. but if there are people interested for dinner i would organise a dinner again. I could make some sambhar and a side if there are some vegetarians...
the cost is 45 chf...for non veg, mutton is quite expensive in geneve.
the place is close to augustin, close to tram 12. for address and contact number rsvp and message me.
