Hike - Col du Sanetsch to Glacier de Tsanfleuron, 3000m
Sunday, September 24th, 2017 @ 08:00
, Lausanne
** Rescheduled from earlier - Short notice but the weather looks good **
Hike from the Col du Sanetsch up to the Glacier 3000 cable car via the Refuge de l'espace.
The scenery & views should be spectacular!
We will take the train to Sion, then bus to Col du Sanetsch, then walk up over the lapiz de tsanfleuron (limestone karst landscape) to the Refuge de l'espace. Have lunch there and then walk across the glacier de tsanfleuron to the Glacier 3000 cable car. Then take it down to the Col de Pillon where we connect with another bus.
- There will probably be snow on the path but not too much.
-You don't need crampons to cross the glacier. I rang the refuge & they said the track is graded so no need. But it is wet (a bit slushy I think) because of the warm weather.
- I believe the karst terrain is quite rough and scrambling could be involved, so you need to be a confident mountain hiker who is sure of their footing.
- I haven't done this before so it is a little exploratory. However this hike is regularly done so should be fine.
- You must take the train that leaves Lausanne at 7:50am. (it is the IR that runs fron Geneve to Brig so you can get on anywhere). It is only possible to do this hike using public transport as we do not walk a loop.
- Good hiking boots & warm, waterproof clothing are required,
- About 850m climb.
I will send round confirmation mail to anyone who signs up later today (Saturday)
