I propose a day trip to Chamonix, in France, to do one of the most beautiful hikes in the region. The hike from Plan de l'Aiguille to Montenvers.

We meet at the parking in front of the Sport 2000 chalet
(This parking lot is supposed to be free, and here is where we will end our hike)

We start by taking the cable car that takes you up to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi (3,842m). However, the half-way station on the cable car is Plan de l'Aiguille (2,310m), and this is the starting point for this route.
Cost: 15 Euro (one way ticket: Chamonix - Plan de l'Aiguille 2310m)

We can take the cable car all the way up to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi. From its height of 3,777m, the Aiguille du Midi and its laid-out terraces offer a 360° view of all the French, Swiss and Italian Alps. A lift brings you to the summit terrace at 3,842m, where you will have a clear view of Mont Blanc. Once we have seen the sights, we come back down to Plan de l'Aiguille (2,310m) where we will start our hike.
Cost: 25.50 Euro (Round trip: Plan de l'Aiguille 2310m - Aiguille du Midi 3777m)

From the cable car station of Plan de l'Aiguille we will hike northeast along the mountain side 'Grand Balcon Nord'. Eventually, we will reach a junction of paths near Montenvers, and we will take the route over Signal Forbes, which climbs some 150 metres in a series of tight zigzags (this portion of the hike is steep). However, at the top, there will be a superb view of the Aiguille Verte (4122 m), and then at the viewpoint of Signal Forbes we will be able to gaze down over the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) far below.

Distance: 10 kms
Ascent: 150 m
Descent: 540 m
Time: About 4 hours (more if option taken)
Difficulty: Easy / Moderate
